Barely made it this week, worked on this all the way up to the last hour(uploaded 5 minutes before deadline! big_smile) ...a bit more ‘old-timey’ in style than I’d care to get stuck in continually but it was fun smile
(made in Renoise, with drum samps, banjo, bass, and vocals by me, and some VCV rack)
Lyrics:
Chorus - I dream of you as if the world could fall away,
Then there’d be only me and you falling in love. (x2)

Verse1 -
When we were young, how we’d run
to transcend all our fears of oblivion
Darlin’ your smile, is a wave on the rise
lifted in style, many miles passed oblivion
As I feel the weight of what we’d overcome
Baby we’ve won! despite songs left unsung
by the fire of the sun as we soar passed oblivion!

Verse2 -
In a whisper astride on a breeze,
   floating light as a whim
Baby your grin made me weak in the knees
no blessing nor sin: we flow free passed oblivion
Felt a shiver when I saw you leaving all that we knew
Baby I’m proud! to see you leave the crowd
way beyond clouds, up high passed oblivion!

Bridge -
I dream of you, dreaming of me, dreaming of you, dreaming of me, dreaming of you and me falling in love.

(Sidenote: i’ve never used the word ‘darlin’ to refer to someone, seems a bit condescending haha,
but for this track it sounded ok just once near the beginning to establish that old-timey feel...
also, feel free let me know what other songs this might sound like... seems too catchy for it to be all original... but i can't seem to place any of it)

Thanks for listening heart

(damn, didn't have time to work the master better, i guess it keeps good dynamics, but probably should be much louder)

Damn, really love the bass playing combined with that beat. The vocals also have a nice hook to them, I dig how it teeters between that old-timey vibe you mention with a modern electronic edge. It's strange mixture in a delightful way and is one I'll definitely listen to again wink

The verse lyrics have a really wonderful freeform flow to them that I like a lot - it's a nice contrast to how straight you play the chorus. Sounds great!

darling: "a dearly loved person"  - tis sweet & so is this song

the vocals :0. they sound so old-timey in the best way. so cool!

I could see not wanting to do the "old-timey" style every week, but as a detour, it's really fun.  Your vocals fit the style well and the use of "darlin" is 100% appropriate for the style of song.  Some words I never or hardly ever use in real life work well in songs.  For instance, as an English Major, I'm a believer in proper grammar and thus almost never say "ain't" when I talk.  However, sometimes I use it in songs because it kind of sounds cool in that context.  But anyway, really enjoyed this track!

It's so wholesome.

HEY EVERYONE LOOK

using the word darlin' 100% made this electronic Smiths

LOVE IT

It is wholesome and just very nice and sweet. The banjer is awesome. Love the vocals and lyrics, a love song, so nice. It sways as a gentle sunset song. And Kazoo, yes! Video is cool! I like the comments. Good thoughts, yeah a hard weird time for all artists in this age.

Thank you! ya, had to cut some lines out to make it be more freeform(i think i accidentally setup a shorter-than intended verse section in Renoise, then realized it'd work more interestingly if i adjusted the lyrics to fit). Makes me so happy you felt it smile

Good point, it is a pretty sweet word big_smile... old-timey times were onto something in their dignified forms of sweetness smile

Ha, that's interesting: i've been using 'ain't' less and less in real life, just feels too... southern in a way that doesn't feel me... but in songs it could always work(it rolls of the tongue easier than 'isn't' big_smile)... i feel ya smile
Thank you so much!

Right: it's as if i had to channel some character with a wholesome attitude, a certain old-timey dignity, felt like i put on the suit-and-tie of old-timey crooners big_smile

Thank you! Glad you feel me on the weird-times-for-artists too smile

Thanks Again Everyone! I truly appreciate being able to 'renegade my style'(<-aw snapz! that'll have to be the subject of another song someday big_smile) here on weeklybeats. Y'all are the best community i've ever had the honor of participating in heart heart heart heart heart

wow. this was great. a real gentleman song.

start (listening through everything this week) - 808 snare and banjo... what?
then - oh hey it's Raja!
onward - damn, singing and lyrics just get better and better, somehow so heartfelt and natural without being cheesy, nobody else could pull this off in 2022, just in awe of how good this is. you're a star.
finally - LOL KAZOO I love it

Love this song. Between the lofty melodies and intriguing instrumentation, it feels fresh as a breeze. Wonderful work! big_smile

Haha I love that old style singing, and the accompanying simple melody, but then mixed with some deep bass here and there, it makes for a very interesting juxtaposition. The climax is of course the wet flute solo at 1:40. Just perfect.

(you're doing such a killer job of listening/commenting on everyone's tracks)

This one's a hit!! I'm w/ License -- the choices here across the board are nothing I'd expect to work together and here they don't just work but ... I dunno, work overtime? Really love this, but I think my favorite part is actually that distorted 808 kick type sub bass hit that hits over the banjo and the kazoo and the old-timey-lyrics and SOUNDS RIGHT EVERY TIME. You absolute legend, you beast, awesome work. heart

Really grateful to hear you enjoyed the juxtaposition of all the elements, was a risky venture, but i'm glad it turned out as it did heart

Thank You Immensely! So very much appreciate you're comments here, glad that kick worked the proper effect, too. Much Love heart

This is great. I thoroughly admire when people get stuff that's not some deviation of techno from a tracker. Also thoroughly enjoy the vocal delivery, very cool.
