Feels like I been struggling finding the right style for my voice. Getting a bit closer, though: this one taught me, if I get a little too ‘eloquent’ with my lyrics, that’s when this weird British-thespian accent comes out lol (I swear the line, “tried to keep this afloat, still dreamt of my escape” made me sound like Peter Dinklage… if only The Lannister of Whizzy could’ve sung this for me big_smile)… so perhaps I like wandering between falsetto and the upper-range of my normal voice most… and perhaps if I write more uplifting/relaxed, there won’t be as much struggle with accents lol (and of course, I need more practice to stay in tune: seems I have more control with the falsetto than the normal voice but both need work tongue)

Ok, just to make this a bit more fun to read for y’all…

› A Section Of ABSOLUTE LIES

...and the lyrics:
“*MarvinGaye-like whispers:* ‘break up break up… time’s up time’s up…’

In a feeling subversive as the wind
Builds up a pressure, grows a chaos deep within
Makes my stomach churn, throws my head in spins
I see the madness spill out the corner of your grin

A face so flushed, with patience growing thin
And so much fallen grace, I was glad we’d never win
Could’ve been left to die, by words we’ve never said
Was only me who’d ever believe in the lives you’ve never led

With a watchful eye, rendered nefarious by the wait
Tried to keep this afloat, still dreamt of my escape
Watched you jump ship to wreckage, quick to break so hard to mend
Reborn to stillborn: yet another chance to die again.”

Also, i figure folks might like an instrumental version, so i uploaded it(using 48k24b wav) to my soundcloud, and made it downloadable from there:

Thanks for listening, reading, and even just being here heart

Really loved where the track goes at the halfway point because there's so much great stuff going on, but really like your lyrics, too. Will try to spend some time soon catching up on your other recent tracks. smile

I did NOT enjoy this track wink. I also HATE your long detailed explanations of how you did things.

I second this. Percussive elements sound interesting and keep things moving. I also like the apparitional (is that a word?) oohs and ahhs in the last third. What’s the reverb you used at the very end for that long fadeout thing? Sounds great, and I want one. Thanks for the song, and for all your… negativity? No, that’s not it. Cheers!

If during week 1 someone was like "that autechre-sounding producer raja? going to be singing his ass off in 30 weeks!" I'd be like "what, okay, weird that you say this, do we need to put down money or something in case that doesn't happen or what's up, like, can't just say that and be like "that's it, have a fact."

Voice feedback:
- Your voice is unique -- your falsetto sounds awesome, and when you strain it it sounds great also (USE THIS);
- Consider octave-down doubling or saturators instead of reverb if you feel the need to hide...
- REBORN TO STILLBORN line processing -- is that RAJA(R)(TM) SPECTRAL PROCESSOR? Do more of that, absolutely badass and doesn't sound like anything else ever.

Absolutely brutal, bonkers dark beat, this. My favorite part is actually the falsetto vocalizing towards the end -- works af. heart

Ouvre le Chien!!

I've been enjoying all the singing and vocalizations on your recent tracks.  I think your vocals sound great here.  The falsetto parts are fantastic for sure but the regular range sound good to me, too.  Really like the instrumentals as well.

Thank You All (i didn't like this track as much, but it was definitely something i had to get out of me once it was well into the process, so i truly appreciate everyone's considerate listening and kind comments) heart heart

I love this beat and the furthered exploration of the vocal styles; even if it's got that thespian flavor it's still very much that Raja energy I love heart everyone could use a little Peter Dinklage in their day. awesome usage of the native Renoise plugins, I always condone that smile happy birthday tomorrow!!

HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RAJA! heart

Happy birthday! I hope it's a good one.

Happy Birthday to you Happy Birthday to you Happy Birthday Dear Raja - THIS TRACK ROCKS & SO DO YOU!

The spooky dance vibes are so pleasing

and the vocals are superb!!!

Nice one, nice vocals, been cool to hear those lately, falsetto sounds great. Fits with this bobbing dark beat well, some nice skittering percussive to ride with.

Awesome write up too, that was fun to read. Major fruit company 808's do sound pretty good smile Happy B day!

Weekly Beats is the best crew EVER! SO HONORED AND WARMED TO THE HEART! Thank You smile heart

Really interesting track and great work with the voice style searching.  I reckon once you hone in on voice production, you may find this style will work really well.  Sure, there's some 'pitchy' stuff but that's just practice.  Always keep pushing forward.  Nice work!

LOL THE LIES ARE HILARIOUS

Your voice is AWESOME

The beat is sick and the singing is really nice, original, catching me. Love it.

Your voice reminds me of a singer but I haven't figured out who yet, haha. I want to say someone in the realm of Trip Hop? Maybe one of the dudes from Sneaker Pimps? Anyways, it's very cool and I dig it and I especially like kind of the switch up in your delivery, tapping into some Falsetto, applying effects, speeding through some phrases, start and stop on others, it makes for an involved listening experience.

@blighter_rock, your question about the reverb stayed in my mind this whole time, and suddenly i remembered today(literally thought to myself just now, "there was a question about what the reverb was, and i still need to go answer that! yikes") It's Valhalla Supermassive, the one they make available for free, grab it here:

so much fun... pretty extensive for a free reverb
*hugs*

Thank You So Much! ya definitely can work that pitchy weirdness out with practice, excited to keep trying and coming back to some of these styles smile

Thank You Thank You heart heart (still have trouble finding that button, they should make all DAW change 'bounce' to 'share' or just use that box with an upward arrow icon... the crazy symbols we use to control things, never quite the same in each different/new context big_smile)

Thanks so much! Ya, i really dig that beat, too(must make more in iPad-garageband, just to have for the future... so quick and easy, yet so powerful).

Much Appreciated, and that's High Praise! (I really love your stuff as well, the command of harmony and the compositional mastery... coupled with amazing musicianship... inspires me). Infinite Gratitude!

Thanks much! "I think I've downloaded that but never actually used it," he sheepishly admitted.
