Feels like I been struggling finding the right style for my voice. Getting a bit closer, though: this one taught me, if I get a little too ‘eloquent’ with my lyrics, that’s when this weird British-thespian accent comes out (I swear the line, “tried to keep this afloat, still dreamt of my escape” made me sound like Peter Dinklage… if only The Lannister of Whizzy could’ve sung this for me )… so perhaps I like wandering between falsetto and the upper-range of my normal voice most… and perhaps if I write more uplifting/relaxed, there won’t be as much struggle with accents (and of course, I need more practice to stay in tune: seems I have more control with the falsetto than the normal voice but both need work )
Ok, just to make this a bit more fun to read for y’all…
› A Section Of ABSOLUTE LIES
‹ A Section Of ABSOLUTE LIES
-I did NOT have any trouble coming up with a track this week, only to collapse on the couch with an iPad on my lap, frustrated as all hell while punching through various music apps i'd downloaded awhile back to try different/new things out(also, it’s NOT my birthday next week on the 11th, and therefore am NOT thinking of skipping next week of WB, as I could use a roadtrip and feel maybe missing a week or two within a year is ok as long as I maintain a minimum of 50 tracks …or maybe I will and this could end up me being, not just a liar OF lies, but also a liar AT lies )
-I did NOT use Korg’s iMS-20 nor did I use a random app i don't remember downloading called ‘Bass808’ in order to come up with some extra bass tones and beats(which seem like they have nothing to do with the sound of an actual ‘808’)
-I did NOT use the ‘Wilsonic’ app to fake some microtuning knowledge in the main chimes-like part that runs through the whole song(do i remember correctly? surely! the main line is probably NOT just using the 'CoPrime Grid' which is why it does NOT simply sound like just-intonation, while the part that comes after the lyrics were NOT done using Harry "Partch's 43-tone scale, Linear mapped to modulus 41 and the Bosanquet Pattern"... and yes: I TOTALLY understand what a Bosanquet pattern is )
-I did NOT then go into GarageBand and bring it all together using interapp audio, and then not knowing how to sync the ‘Wilsonic’ app, simply decided to play the chimes-part by hand straight into a GarageBand audio recording, and so there’s NOTHING irregular about the rhythm of that part(especially nothing you can hear at the end right before it drowns in a reverb tail)
-I did NOT add that ending ValhallaSuperMassive reverb tail simply because i couldn’t figure out how to make something in GarageBand which doesn’t make it sound like everything cuts off too abruptly
-I did NOT setup an 808 beat within GarageBand to serve as the main metronome to which I could play ‘Wilsonic’ to(upon deciding that GarageBand has more of an 808 set of sounds than this random app I don’t remember downloading called, “Bass808”)
-I did NOT forget that I had made some iMS-20 beats with swing(while struggling to find any control for swinging the GarageBand 808 beat), and therefore TOTALLY INTENDED the way the iMS-20 beat has swing while the 808 beat is ridiculously quantized without any swing whatsoever, and therefore found NOTHING OFF-KILTER about the combination of the two(yes, perfectly intended for this all to happen)
-I did NOT then feel the sound of everything too raw and decided to bounce it out and take it into Renoise
-It did NOT take me an extra half-hour to figure out, to bounce files from GarageBand, you must first find the ‘share’ button
-I did NOT add a ridiculous amount of native Renoise plugins, such as AnalogFilter, Convolver, LofiMat, Reverb, BusCompressor, Compressor, Delay, Sidechain, and a couple FabFilter plugins on the master in order to milk the sound more juicy and thick than I could in GarageBand
-I did NOT then decide to throw some Aalto(for subbass sine tones) and VCV Rack 2(mostly just the EricaSynths wavetable oscillator) into the mix
-I did NOT then decide this track needed lyrics and then wrote (un)said lyrics while cathartically releasing some final details of my divorce(from way back in 2015) entirely out of my being
-I did NOT then decide the beginning could sound like the antithesis of the beginning of Marvin Gaye’s ‘Sexual Healing’ if I just added some whispering in a similar(but darker) vein
-I did NOT then decide my voice could use some ValhallaVintageVerb(set to 4s on ‘Sanctuary’ setting) and also some extra, interspersed Max/MSP effect I made 11 years ago, utilizing FFT to create what I call a ‘timbral morph’(like a hires vocoder melding two signals’ timbres together in different ways; which I have NOT been keeping a secret all this time), and you DO NOT especially hear it on the closing lyrics, ‘yet another chance to die again’
-This is INDEED a feel-good song, so uplifting and happy, especially that last line, so family friendly, and fun for kids of all ages *innocent-angel/alien-emoji*
-The 808 sounds from GarageBand are INDEED some of the finest samples of 808 I’ve ever heard, not at all digitally hollow and tin-like in their sound due to some aliasing that apple didn’t care about, NO! apple knows what’s best! I for one WELCOME our new
'major-fruit-company’ overlords as the MOST WOKE example of what an absolutely SOULFUL CORPORATION can do for the music of today
-I did NOT just vomit a little in my mouth after writing out that last point
...and the lyrics:
“*MarvinGaye-like whispers:* ‘break up break up… time’s up time’s up…’
In a feeling subversive as the wind
Builds up a pressure, grows a chaos deep within
Makes my stomach churn, throws my head in spins
I see the madness spill out the corner of your grin
A face so flushed, with patience growing thin
And so much fallen grace, I was glad we’d never win
Could’ve been left to die, by words we’ve never said
Was only me who’d ever believe in the lives you’ve never led
With a watchful eye, rendered nefarious by the wait
Tried to keep this afloat, still dreamt of my escape
Watched you jump ship to wreckage, quick to break so hard to mend
Reborn to stillborn: yet another chance to die again.”
Also, i figure folks might like an instrumental version, so i uploaded it(using 48k24b wav) to my soundcloud, and made it downloadable from there:
