Nonsense Planet - Act 1

By radian on February 13, 2022 9:40 pm

Absolute nonsense BUT, I tried out a couple of new things:

Started a track in hUGEtracker which is a new tracker for Gameboy music on Windows - didn't click with me even after doing a custom keymap to make it not insane (the default is z=C, x=C#, c=D instead of normal z=C, s=C#, x=D....)

Sane keymap here: https://gist.github.com/r4dian/046d756d … 4cd972855d

I'll give it another go another time...

Anyway instead I made a little loop in LSDJ using Retro plug and an Xbox360 pad which is a fun way to use it. If it detects you're using LSDJ, then other buttons on the pad that a Gameboy doesn't have become LSDJ shortcuts (l1/r1 are page up/down, Y switches between systems if you're using more then one GB, etc...) AND it syncs the LSDJ to your DAW.

Anyway the tune here doesn't really show this off cos I spent all the time on tool learning instead of composing.

Tune jams -- the bouncy bass is great. The keymap idea is interesting -- the Z-S-X-D-C-V is to mimic a piano keyboard (white and black keys) -- but I really like the idea of remapping to a custom scale or something, will definitely try to see if I can do something similar w/ Ableton & Max4Live.

Sweet tune!
