extended koma

By Q-Rosh on June 5, 2022 11:21 am

this track is not intended for every day use. It came out longer and more meditative as I have thought. There is not much musical innovation going on, but when listening closely, there are a few bleeps and blopps, that are quiet nice. what I tried to do is to record the guitar with reverse effects and play it back in reverse again, so it should end up as forward music, if you understand what I mean.

It could be because of where I am mentally, but I really enjoy music like this recently. Also, it was a nice way to wind down after a pretty intense day. Thank you. smile

You say it's not intended for everyday use, but I think it can be. I saw an interview last week with Rick Beato and Ted Gioia where they talk about how longer tracks can enable a good hypnotic mind-resonating effect that only kicks in after a while, so it's important to have some longer music sometimes. I started meditating this week and the mental benefits seem to kick in pretty fast even after like 5 minutes. Now I'm on the train listening to this track and honestly it gives me a great feeling especially because it's so simple, droney and longer than the average track. Thanks for sharing!

Funny about the reverse guitar method smile

That reverse-reverse guitar tech sounds really ingenious. Lovely track, it flows really nicely and all the textures and little effects keep it very interesting until the end.

I might use this for everyday use anyway, you can't tell me what to do!!! This would indeed be a great meditation track, it's peaceful but variable at the same time. Excellent work!

Good to zone out to and the occasional bleeps and bloops do add some great texture and a sense of otherworldliness.

Deeply meditative sounds with some pleasantly unsettling threads running through, I like the combination. smile

Thank you for this calming track.  Totally fit right into my meditation time.  The ambience and reverb just has this nice sense of safety and calming.  Especially during these crazy violent times this comes in and just slows my worrying mind down.  Excellent extended outro too.

I enjoy getting lost in the noises

Sounds very organic. Bubbling with life. Beautiful swells and drones. Reminds me a bit of Brian Eno's work in the 80s/90s but a bit more interesting to my taste. What are you using aside from guitar?

This is my kind of ambient music. Perfect for contemplative moods and the bleeps and blops make it more of an active listening experience.

Excellent, I love bleeps and blopps.  I feel like I'd love your pedal board, your sounds are always right up my alley.  Very cool stuff.

Haha I can totally relate to the explanation about playing music with backward effects and reversing it to have a forward effect. That makes perfect sense. The guitars sound like robot birds talking. These waves and layers that ebb and flow are indeed hypnotic, some sound like synths or pads. That's all guitars?

always look forward to the places your songs will go, always a far out place I enjoy. For me this is great for everyday use, most days I'm sitting at desk doing work on the computer, and a song like this accompanies that well, even helps spawn some good thoughts I may need to write better users stories for software development.

I am glad you like this. Hope your days get less intense soon. Thank you.

Your comment gives me a lot. Thank you.

It is not a method yet, but I will will try to get more tones like this. Thanks.

So nice to hear you. I am glad you connect to this. Thanks.

"otherworldliness" I hear for the first time. And it is true. I create my own soundworld to get away from the shitty worldpolitics that is facing us. It helps a little bit.

It is really only guitar and effectpedals, but what you hear as a synth, is the EHX hog, an organ-generator.
Thank you for the nice comment.

Thank you very much. I hope I make more of this stuff.

The robot-bird link is now effecting my listening in a new way. And it is even funnier now to hear those sounds. That are only guitars with effects. The EHX-hog generates organsounds. Thanks for the gif and your nice comment.

Now I see! You can work and listen to WB at the same time. I wish I could do this in my hospital workingplace too. Thanks for all.

good question, probably because I enjoy getting lost in anything rather than having to live the life I have

(Heard this a few times at work, it's been a "catching up w/ Q-Rosh" kind of day.) Some time ago we talked about guitar pedals / MOOD vs. BLOOPER discussion in particular. The "backwards-forwards" idea is what Blooper specifically excels at: you can reverse things in places, then overdub w/ other things, and do more reversals that will then make everything be forward/backward something. After reading the description for this track in particular, I'll set aside my caution about recommending an expensive piece of gear: you would love it.

I will echo horatiuromantic's comment -- I didn't read the description, listened to this, got lost in it, then by the time it was over wanted to listen to it again. Then I heard "soul hissing" and came back to this one for 3rds, and then heard it twice more (but once interrupted). Perhaps it's not for everyday, but the mind seeks contrast and this end-of-the-half breakneck pace that will persist through June needs music like this.

How were the quiet, gentleharsh noises done in this?
