Wish you well

I heard this week that to move on, the key is to wish the absolute best for everyone. To relax your grip, you must reject any other mindset. It's toxic to wish less. That was the idea.

I was also really vibing to Sum 41 so I ripped them off pretty hard. It's a bit of a pop-punk style.

Sloppy, but I like the seed of an idea here.

Feel free to especially roast since I don't often attempt the four piece rock style. Know the instrument takes are v sloppy though.

This is cool. Can totally hear the Sum41 influence, but it sounds completely new and original, and I wouldn't have picked if if you hadn't pointed it out.

Somehow has a bit of a Metric vibe. Really nice.

Congrats on making it through 13 weeks smile

Surprising no one, this might be my fave of yours. I say this unironically ... brace yourself .... I think the sidechaining adds a cool vibe, and mixed in with the pop punk sound makes it all your own. A bit of All-American Rejects in here too.

I like the lyrical concept, and I think you executed it nicely. It sounds to me like maybe you've gained some confidence to push the vocals further forward in your mixes recently, and I think it's great.

I get the Sum 41 vibes, and I dig! I like the chill vibe here but still with those crunchy guitars. This is a really cool tune!

cool chord changes around 2:45

agree about the nice vocal mix, sounds good. I can't see any fault in the instrument takes, they sound great. well done!

as a bit of a constructive criticism, would be cool to hear some more variation in the melody, esp at that special 2:45 chord change could be something a bit more wild. for instance: after the first four lines, the instruments also sound a bit different, so the melody could do a little something else. would breathe some more life into the track. but overall it's really cool!

hope you get to see the dog

The tonal choices across drums (esp the kick and snare), bass, vocals, guitar, and 2nd lead guitar all give a consistent feeling, sort of sounds like a previous effect chain of yours. I’d like to hear what you do combining the best elements of this with the best elements of your previous style.

Trying to find some constructive criticism, I can only comment on personal preferences on how I would have liked to hear it. I like prominent instruments and vocals up front and trading places in the front then getting way out of the way for the next prominent piece. Or choosing tones that are a bit more minimal on their own but don’t need to back off when they come together. For instance the bass tone was awesome when it first came in but once everything got in I feel like it was too much and needed to get out of the way more, seemed to conflict with the power of the kick. Naturally these are some of my favorite vocals of yours given how up front they were.

Nice work consistency on songs with vocals week after week. This is inspiring.

Really nice production on this! especially the vocals

Thanks!!!

Ha yeah the “gives me hell” definitely evokes AAR doesn’t it. There’s a subtler sidechaining on a lot of the instruments to the drums but just that one walking lead guitar part has a heavy extra layer that’s effectively just an LFO from a lazy mans sidechaining plugin. Adds a nice vibe that makes your head nod even when it’s not getting out of the way of anything. Can hear that in a lot of pop nowadays. The lazy plugin makes it so much easier to audition/try it quickly.

Haha thanks yeah I got lazy on the lyrics and melody for that last section… duly noted. I just gotta get quicker with everything.

Yep I definitely fall victim to tyranny of the default, I have a lot of stuff in my template that is easy to reach for. You’ve heard that drum kit several times with slight variations in effects. Same with the vocal chain, moderate variations as I’ve been experimenting. Bass chain is usually the same with knob tweaks. The guitars are new, I feel like I usually do play with the guitar tone if I’m gonna track guitar. I usually use a lot of the same verbs on the returns though.

Ooh excellent feedback on the arrangement and instrumentation. I ought to try rearranging it with that in mind to see what I come up with.
