Little Murder Machine

By Princent Vice on April 7, 2024 10:08 pm

Since getting a TT-303 to replace my aging x0xb0x I’ve been missing good distortion for my 303.  The OPZ can provide some saturation and I can dedicate an fx lane to distortion if I want, but having a dedicated distortion for the 303 really takes it to another level. Instead of buying a bunch of pedals I 3D printed a eurorack case and repurposed some of my noisiest modules into a tiny fx unit; my Little Murder Machine as someone else called it. I’ve got tubes, I’ve got saturation, several noisy filters, an LPG, and even a dedicate reverb to further free up the OPZ fx.

Spectacular, and the distortion really is the key. You’ve still got moments of that classic squelch but it’s also just so growly. By the time we’ve hit 3min or so, the 303 has gone off its meds, but the lead line is still so nice and pretty. Love it

The distortion made my head nod. Dope.

Good idea with using 1U line-in/line-out! A creative and versatile solution for distortion and more. I'm impressed.

The track in effect sounds quite innovative. That distortion coming it at 2:10 develops into almost wild animal screeches. There's a formant quality to it that I really like. Good job!

I’m so glad the distortion hit as well as it did. I was really worried about the increased noise floor, but it seems almost entirely unnoticeable here (even if I can see it in the recording). Just about anything sounds formant-y through 4x wailing, resonant filters

Here’s the final form of the box:

I’m relocating the power module and unity mixer as seen in the original pic to the front and back of the case to squeeze an envelope and sidechaining compressor in. Since i already had most of these modules it was a far more economical choice than buying pedals or an fx box and I get to repurpose the Eurorack that has just been collecting dust for years. With 3x filters, 2x mixers (one with saturation), the Tubes, and reverb I cant imagine needing much else. My old crow phaser is broken and that’s really the only module I can see trying to make space for
