Cold

Chill sketch to try to capture the mid-winter feeling. It's been super cold here (-20F to -40F) for weeks. Feels a little tedious, a little cozy, a little meh. Tried to put all that into here!

I kinda decided on a whim a few days ago to try my hand at weeklybeats again. It's been a while since I've done any M8 stuff or any electronic music at all.

One of the big things I am hoping to challenge myself with is to avoid using samples. Usually on all my prior M8 tracks I've used samples for drums, but for this one everything is all done with the internal synth engines! Drums are all FM synth. I'm pretty happy with the kick and the snare, but the hat is just OK. Bass is hypersynth, chord is FM synth, arp and lead are both macrosynth.

The arrangement isn't anything to write home about, I would have loved to add a b-part but I'm trying to just get into the habit of not being too picky about things being "done".

Great drum synthesis! I really like the sparse feel of this - it really does have the feel of a cold afternoon. Buts it’s far from “meh”!

Fun song!

This is dope. I feel like I am in a similar place with needing to accept things as they are.  It's a hard process to get adapt.  I love this little track though.  Remember you can always come back down the road.  Just flex those creative muscles.

It feels melancholy, but also a little hopeful, too. It's probably still going to be cold for a while, but the days can only get longer from here!

Cozy little contrast between the light, mostly unsyncopated lead and the bass!

yeah, i hear you - just go for it and don't worry about it!
great job without using samples - the plucky high bits were nice
