The Plane

By Plantrain on April 3, 2016 9:03 pm

Inspired by last weekend's Piano Day, I booked a rehearsal room with an upright piano this week, bringing along a stereo recorder to see what would come out of it. My piano playing abilities are limited, so I spent a lot of time listening to sustained chords slowly decaying, trying to pick out musical ideas.
As a result this week's track is almost only piano, sustained chords, fragments of melodies, a track of processed piano and a drum machine track recorded earlier (part of it was used in week 7) coming in towards the end.

Very Harold Budd. Great recording.

I wanted to hear your recording with a good set of monitors and I can tell you now, it really is a nice recording of the upright piano. It is very warm and swelling. Your playing is great and the whole song is impressing me. It was a good idea to have booked the rehersal room.

Very nice piano sound on this.  It really sounds like I'm right there in the room.  I also dig the sort of tremolo sound that comes in at various points.

I love how it has the Sakamoto/Fennesz/Alva Noto vibe. I often listen to those.
Also, I am a journalist for Belgian national radio, and I often make montages/reportages etc ... Would you be okay if I - at some point - use this music in one of them? (if not, no worries!) Really diggin this!

Wundervoll atmos!

Lovely stuff!  The artificial/processed sustains sound great.

Thank you all.
The tremolo/processed sounds was done with dblue stretch VST running on a track of me improvising various melodic elements over the chords.
