UNLOVED

This week's song was influenced by U2's Love is Blindness. I'm using the same chord progression and the synth solo was somewhat inspired by the guitar in that song. That being said, this is by no means a cover and I don't think it borrows too much.

Most of the synth parts are Hydrasynth presets this week. The "choral" part is a patch called Minions Lullaby, which when I first heard it, I was pretty sure I'd never use it. However, after sequencing the bass part, I was just cycling through some presets, trying stuff out and something about this sound really worked for me.

I spent a bit more time this week working on including some variation on the percussion parts instead playing the same pattern for 4 or 8 bars. I'm pleased with how it turned out as I haven't spent much time learning out making drum rhythms.

For the synth solo, I recorded it live while listening to the rest of the parts. It's really the first time I feel I've used the pitch bend effectively on my synth. I was pleased with how this landed too ... hence why it gets repeated! I probably should have recorded a second solo though, now that I'm hearing this again.

I've got to spend a bit more time learning about and working on smoother and more varied transitions. I've been relying on noise risers almost 100% since I started this Weekly Beats thing. I'm starting to get tired of them lol!

Anyway, overall I'm pleased with how this all went! Yeah.

Congrats on another week and looking forward to hearing your songs again this week!

Cheers!

Daaaaamn I am reeeeally digging this!!!! I'm seriously impressed with your ability to make these longer tunes. It NEVER feels repetitive or dull - you're always able to find cool things to keep my ears attentive and interested in what's coming next.
The ethereal vocal-sounding synth is so great here, especially with all the layers of it you've built onto each other. It feels like a cathedral of fallen chip angels who have come to earth and are summoning their chip lord, an eldritch abomination of unfathomable darkness and intensity.
Really, really awesome work.

Oh shit! I didn't consider that they might be trying to summon something! I was thinking they were just abandoned. Now I hear this in a whole new way!

I see we were both channelling bells this week too! Must be something in the air!

Thanks for the boost man!

really nice work here, Peter.
i love the insistent beat & bass with the synth floating over the top!
could def hear vocals on this, but it also stands as a strong intrumental.
happy Week 37! hard to believe we're almost 3/4 of the way through the year  yikes
