This one was a lot of fun to put together! Most of the parts were played live on my little Hydrasynth rather than sequencing it with the M8. So the timing is a little off in a few places, but I like the feel of it to be honest. Also, it was quicker to get the parts recorded without having to translate everything into a sequence first.

The tune came together after some jamming with an organ patch on the Hydrasynth. I found a couple of licks that were fun to play and let them repeat on the M8 while I improvised the next part live until I found something that I liked ... and then I repeated that until I had all the parts recorded. Then I did all the arranging with the M8 ... which is such a nice way to work on music!

I'm thinking I need to do some learning on mixing and mastering at some point too ... so much to know, so little time!

Anyway, thanks for listening and reading, and let me know what you think!

I FUCKING LOVE THIS! This is so funky, groovy and it's just DRIPPING with stank. AMAZING. I have a grin on my face all throughout this tune, so great. Also, fantastic work playing along with the Hydra - I wish the M8 offered a bit more "jamming" capabilities like this, but I think it's REALLY hard to do given its workflow.

Anyways, congrats - this sounds fantastic heart

very cool indeed! I could totally follow your process by listening - each layer builds naturally on the previous.

big up for playing close but not perfectly on tempo. to me THIS IS PERFECTLY on tempo, not the quantized robotic feel of a piano roll.

I agree with

I also tried recording on M8 and then sequencing and it's too much bother for me to go into the sampler, record, save the file, wait for it to be saved, then start putting the track together. when in Logic or other daws the process is much faster cause I wanna do a lot of takes. But maybe that's the nice thing about m8, if it's not so easy to do another take, you're more forgiving and listen closer for how you can use a take in an interesting way.

oh wow this is really fun!

Love how the percussion dances around in the mix.  This gets movin and groovin right from the start of the kick.  All of the synths have this awesome solo jam sound to them.  Like they're wailing on the dance floor.  Excellent pace and really fun listen.  Nice work!

Nothing like a little funk! Fun choice of Instruments and samples, and great progression. Really keeps you engaged without overloading the solid base idea. Great job!

Thank you! Yeah, with some past experience with piano playing, I find myself craving a keyboard to figure out parts. That said, I also love working with just the M8 on the couch lol!

Thank you! Yeah, I am still trying out different work flows, and I still haven't found the one to rule them all. For bass lines, or little repeating parts, I still like to sequence it on the M8, but for any kind of solo or lead part, I do like to play it live ... even if it takes a few takes to get it. And yeah, I often say "close enough" and settle, to avoid having to record and groom a new take on the sampler. Anyway, thank for the comment and glad you enjoyed it!

Thank you! Yeah, I was inspired by the sounds of these synths on this one for sure. Thanks for listening!

Thank you! I was a bit worried I was indeed overloading things, so I'm pleased to hear that you thought the bass was still coming through. Cheers!
