PERIHELION BURN

By PeterM on May 4, 2024 5:39 pm

Imagine, if you will, a spacecraft in an elliptical orbit around a star. The sole occupant is preparing to perform a critical burn manoeuvre as they pass through the perihelion (closest point of approach) of the orbit of the star, which will slingshot them out into space towards their destination. The tension builds as the ship approaches the critical point, but eventually that shifts into a building confidence, as it becomes clear everything is going as planned. When the chorus hits, the engines are at full throttle, the pilot smiles and heaves a sigh of relief as the spacecraft zips past the star, eventually revealing the expanse of space in front of them as they leave the star behind. The story ends with the ship and occupant hurtling out into the emptiness of space towards where ever they are headed, leaving the star behind.

Just another attempt at some Berlin Schooly stuff this week. The bass and the lead in the chorus are Hydrasynth patches, the ambient sounds are the beginning and end are a Norns Barcode script mangled synth line. Most of the other instruments are M8.

I had some fun making this one. I like this style of sound. I want to work on getting the sequences to have a bit more of a melody line to them. They still sound a bit to random to my ears, but it kinda gets swallowed by the delay and reverb, so it is a pretty forgiving style, I think.

Thanks for listening!

Thanks for listening! I hope to make a few more spacey tunes before the year is done.
