LONGING

So no time for anything this week. On Sunday, with no Weekly Beats song anywhere in sight, my daughter had a piano recital that was held at a local university. While we were waiting for things to get going, I ducked into one of the student practice rooms and put my phone down on the piano and recorded some improv for a few minutes. In amongst everything I had this little somewhat coherent passage. When I got home this afternoon, I recorded the piano part into my M8 from my phone. I planned to add some other parts to it, but got fed up trying to sync everything with my wandering tempo on the piano. ("Not my tempo!")

So in the end I found myself with the piano part repeated on 5 tracks with different panning, filters, reverb, delay and some subtle table based pitch wobble. Probably there is too much reverb and delay, but I love the way my crappy, noisy, phone recording ended up sounding so spacious and dreamlike. There's some noise artefacts still there in some places, but gotta get the track out so I'm OK with it!

Thanks for listening!

You recorded this on your phone?!?! This sounds incredible!!! Wizardry!!!
Also, I love how mournful and introspective the tune feels. I'm all for a good sad piano song - one of my favorite genres, really. You did an awesome job here, not only with making the recording sound dreamlike and full, but the actual piano playing too. It sounds like it's being played full of emotion. Well done ❤️

Wow. So much depth and emotion from a quick practice room recording with effects. Geeeez it's good! Love the wobble and I think the reverb and delay is perrrrrfect.

Thanks! Yeah, it's got me thinking of doing more piano stuff. My previous attempts were a bit lack lustre because I wasn't satisfied with the recording quality. Now that I know I can massage it with the M8, I'm considering it again. Mind you, the piano in that practice room was a nice baby grand, which probably helped a bit!

Thank you! I was pretty pleased with the little pitch wobble too. It was intended to embrace the crap recording but it actually elevated the whole thing IMO.
