INSTAMATIC

This week's song is a one sample challenge. I used the mic on my M8 to record me winding and snapping the shutter on an old Kodak Instamatic X-15F camera. The whole song is made with just this sample. It's a very clicky sample so it was hard to get the low end to come through and the high end is maybe a bit hot, but I think it kinda works in the end.
For any pitched parts I am playing the filter resonance by adjusting the cutoff with FX commands. It was really hard to hit any exact notes using this technique but it also kinda works in the end. One approach that made this a bit easier was using a table with the new TICFE "speed" and then setting the CUT FX in the table to try to get close to a scale. Then I could "play" the table with notes in the phrases. This is how I got the high plucky part to work in the second half of the song.
For the bass I'm also playing the filter resonance but I'm just using CUT in the phrase directly and not using the table TICFE technique. I probably would have scrapped this song if I hadn't managed to get this bass line working fairly early on in the process.
I enjoyed working with just the M8 this week. The last few weeks I've been using my Hydrasynth a lot, which I do enjoy, but good ol' M8 on the couch is tough to beat!
Anyway, at this point in the year, I am just happy to have some way of forcing some new idea out of myself! I kinda like the result and I kinda had to learn some new M8 skills to make it happen. So, song done, learned something new, victory!
Congrats on another week! Cheers.
