I tried to take a step towards chippiness this week, which I don't have a lot of experience with. I somehow felt it overwhelming with possibilities and thus I had trouble finding ideas that worked for me. I experimented with many ideas and abandoned most of them, so it felt like an unproductive week when I consider the output for the amount of input that I gave. Anyway, I like this style as a listener, and perhaps I underestimated the challenges involved in making this type of music  ... or maybe I just didn't have the good fortune of stumbling onto enough good ideas.

I have noticed that my song writing seems very heavily tied to chance! Sometimes I just seem to luckily get a good idea and it leads to a good song, and other times I just don't find anything despite lots of searching.

Anyway, despite struggling with having to discard musical ideas all week, I do like the result! It feels like it needs some more variety ... but y'all know I say that every week, so take that with a grain of salt. Let's just say my music is not lacking in "focus" haha!

This is all M8 instruments this week ... and I think all Wave Synth too, giving it that classic M8 feel! wink

Thanks for listening!

Are we only 5 to go now?! Amazing ... but also I'm almost getting a bit sad thinking about it ...

This is FANTASTIC!!!! I can definitely hear and feel some of the chiptune influences. This feels so absurdly fresh and has its very own unique killer vibe! SUPER dancy, super groovy! I REALLY REALLY like your sound design choices here, especially the bass line voice and percussive elements. Damn, this sounds so friggin good!
Please do continue to explore this chippy avenue, I think you have some awesome accidents to stumble upon. And I can't wait to hear them.

Thanks for your encouraging comment jegasus! I guess I ended up editing out the chippier bits haha. Re-listening and it hardly sounds chippy at all lol! That's what I was aiming at though. I'll keep trying! wink

had me galloping from the start. Hunting for ideas with happy accidents is the way to go. Love the sound design on this one. Effing love my m8! If you're not throwing away a bunch of ideas then you're not making music. I think expecting magic to happen every time just makes you not want to make music. I've embraced the mentality that oh well, it's not working right now, I'll come back later and see what happens.

I totally dig that this is a chip tune "flavored" track! Can totally hear that influence in here, but it's absolutely its own thing. This has a richness that true chip tune doesn't have (by its nature)....sort of like a retro-inspired jam. Great textures and layers see, and the mix is great, can hear everything so well. This rocks!

Hell yes I love the panning. Those synth lines are dope af! The mix sounds really good! Nice texture at 1:20. Really catchy. The M8 is so perfect for a workflow that relies on chance. Nice work!

your not alone in getting sad hmm

This is wild! I love the funky bass, glitchy lead/percussion and nice clean mix. It's got great flow and some top-notch ear candy. And it's heckin' catchy!

In my experience, even if every week isn't a home run, there's usually something worthwhile in every creative endeavor.  Some part you like or some technique you learn.  This has a great sound and energy to it, so as a listener I would say you hit the ball pretty far.  At least a solid triple for sure.  smile

Also sometimes when we attempt to replicate something, we fail at that, but in the process create something cool that stands on its own.  I'd put this in that category as well.  It may not have ended up what you intended when starting out, but it's what it was supposed to be.

Wow! I have no ideia how many different versions you threw away, but this one definitely hits!
I too am a noob when it comes to making chiptune and I admire how much it takes to make something so musical with such constraints. Congrats! Really enjoyed this tune!

YES

lotta shoulder & head dance moves (embarrassing) flying over here in the cozy basement. this is great! that synth lead!

YES

Love the sound design here, very much a strong chiptune energy.  The lead really makes me want to break out an old school side scrolling action adventure game... so I'm pretty sure hit hit the mark.  Well done.

My songwriting is also left to chance a lot, even when programming it. Excellent effort chip tune style track! I dig it
