Welp, here goes nothing.

First Weeklybeats post. And the first track I've ever completed. Everything else I've ever done was just following happy accidents as I was learning. In the works for months, as I could find time between parenting and work.

Some people that have listened to this remarked that there is too much talking. I think they're probably right, but I've been to buried in getting this finished up to think about it too much. I'll save that for a future revision.

Production notes: MPC Live II Standalone with stock plugins and presets, some slightly modified. Voice is from a BBC piece about Daphne. Mixed and mastered* on the MPC with a bit of analog saturation courtesy of an Analog Heat MKII.

Thanks for listening!

*Mastered in the sense that I used filters and EQs and limiters and compressors and other things I only barely comprehend. Analog Heat is nice, tho.

First off: Welcome to Weeklybeats and congratulations on your first finished track!

I can understand the other listeners' opinions about the talking, but I didn't see it that way.  The amount that's appropriate depends on your expectations―if you came in primed for something along the lines of Negativland's "Guns", this would have waaaay too much music. tongue

Impressive... I don't think I've seen someone attain enlightenment on their first track before. tongue  That's the way to get stuff done―welcome to your new life of being incredibly productive. cool

Looking forward to see what you'll do next.  (Those samples are great, btw―they got me interested in watching the source documentary.)

Nice cheesy dialogue! The beat is pretty legit, it's ready for a party! Also interested in this Daphne now smile

@ineff Thank you for the kind welcome and the thoughtful response!

Ha! What you call enlightenment is decades of being a creative professional. Collecting and interpreting feedback and prioritizing changes comes with the territory.

LOL, thanks! Glad to have sparked some interest in her. I found that BBC segment via @synth_history on IG.

Welcome to the gang
I don't know about too much talking, vocals are like an instrument on their own, and you're playing the samples well enough

Welcome and Congrats on getting a solid track completed and out there! This sounds great(that AnalogHeat is no joke, it'll make anything sound so succulent: i totally want one big_smile)... i think the vocals take a lead in the spotlight which isn't too much nor a bad thing at all, considering it gives a good tribute to Daphne Oram heart
