Something COMPLETELY different this week. And it requires a bit of backstory.

I'm actually cheating a little. The other song I'm working on needs vocals, but my wife is singing and had a migraine this week. I'll post that next week...so this week we get a rough, in the moment, incredibly silly song with my teenager.

Last week, I was really stuck on lyrics for Paint it Red, so I pulled up some lyric generators. Didn't end up using any of them, but they had some interesting lines. I mentioned this to The Teen, and they were very interested - they enjoy playing with chatbots. They've been wanting to make music with me, so we played around with a few last Tuesday.

The first one we tried was full stop awful. For some reason, apropos of nothing, it inserted the line "I took a hard hit upon my balls" into a song that was supposed to be a sad country song about cheese. (Which honestly is sort of amazing.) That did however become a running joke for the rest of the night.

Next one we tried was MUCH better. This one didn’t use styles, just prompts as to what the song should be about and a “creativity” slider. As the prompts, we told it to make a song using:

1) I took a hard hit upon my balls
2) My dog is disappointed in me
3) My library books are overdue.
4) Forgot to switch my laundry
5) I burned my toast
6) I don't like Mondays

And from that, it generated the lyrics below. That first verse alone..."tender orbs", “cruel delight”…OMG. I picked up a guitar and started noodling something, and we both started singing. We got like a verse and a chorus in and I'm like, holy shit stop, we need to record this. And that's what you've got here, a one take wonder direct from my phone. We had the lyrics in front of us, but made up everything else as we went (some of the pauses are because I had to scroll down). Totally winged it at the bridge and outro - I was making up chords, they were making up melody. We kept looking at each other and laughing as we sang. Such an epic night...we'll be doing it again.

Extra note: This is a special week for me - 30 weeks marks the longest I've ever been able to keep up with a weekly song project. The last time, I put a lot of restrictions on myself that weren't helpful...I NEVER would have posted a song like this. The most important thing is creating something...anything. And keeping doing it!

This year has been a challenge in more ways than just musically, and I'm proud of myself for keeping up with it. The community here is awesome - the support everyone shows here is no small part in continuing to write a song a week. Keep pressing record, everyone!

Firstly - high five for week 30, it's really cool you have kept it so consistent this year.  Equally cool for all of us who get to hear your music each week smile

Secondly - that was the most damn charming thing I have heard in a very long time, hearing all your laughter along with the singing was just heartwarming.

Finally - we really do need more songs about testicular abuse.

very funny, definitely got a few giggles out of me.

cant help but think one of the generators was actually a fat orange cat.

Back atcha! We're all rocking it pretty hard. Seeing what everyone has done is a highlight of my week.

The laughter was honestly what made me decide to post this for the week. We just had so much damn fun smile

Finally - challenge accepted. Maybe something for week 43 LOL

I KNOW RIGHT. It wasn't the intention to make a Garfield song, but here we are. Glad you giggled smile

impossible not to smile listening to this heart  Such a fun song.  Love the lyrics and I wanna play tambourine in the background. smile

Ridiculously fun. This is like that treasure of a track on an album that's otherwise intense, heavy, a breath of emotional fresh air and joy and lightness amidst a deeper symphony. Really delightful. A great little stop on that journey towards week 52 smile

omg i love this so much  heart
please tell The Teen they killed it
really catchy melody & yeah, just a great moment you captured.
thanks for sharing it with us!

This is awesome! It's like a peek into a friendly back porch jam where anything goes. A welcome change from how heavy life can get. This should be a hidden track on one of your heavier albums for sure - both of you sound like you're having several blasts at once.
And congrats on sticking with the weekly deadline and letting us hear the results!

I challenge anyone to listen to this without smiling from start to finish. The lyrics are hilariously poetic taking the listener on a journey of despair until that final verse that leaves you on a good note of hope that soon it will be Tuesday! What I really enjoyed about this, however, is the sense of bonding between father and daughter in this mutual act of creating not only a fun and whimsical song together, but also a lasting memory that will live on through the years.  Also, congrats on 30 weeks nonstop! That's a real testament to your dedication to truly living a creative life.  Kudos!

I'm late to listening to WB this week because I had to go pick up my kids in California. I didn't hear yours until I had finished recording next week's song....with MY kids! So weird. Haha. So next Sunday you'll get to hear my collaboration with my 4 kids. smile
Sounds like you had a great time. Such an awesome experience sharing this with kids.

Thank you! Earlier in the year, fetalface posted some wonderful in-the-moment recordings that changed my idea of what a song-a-week project could be about. I'm usually neck deep in some manner of production....but sometimes it's just about capturing some ephemeral joy. heart

Thank you! I will absolutely pass that along. I told them I posted it, but I'm not sure they're expecting such wonderful feedback. smile

100% correct. Some of the best memories are of creating together. Thank you heart

Week 30 - wherein we all bring in the kids!

Absolutely was a great time...really looking forward to hearing what you and your kids recorded!

Slap some fire sound effects on it and it's a great campfire song. This song has such a good vibe
