Whoa, this is a fun jam! I dig it.

WOW!!!! are you part Octopus?
those versions of yourself were amazing to behold
loved the Frank cameo x heart

listening back it is such a great jam  - the way you build a song is so lovely & layered
josh & i request a workshop on looping (with all your free time) wink

This put me in a trance fast. big_smile Catchy stuff!

I really love how this is built up through practical means, you know? Like every part is you performing it first, then walking to another instrument, playing that, and it building off these layers to create a song. A completely authentic one-man-band-jam haha.

Great loops and it's nice to see you rocking out on your different instruments.

Love the buildup one layer at a time! All the instruments and your playing sounded good! I especially enjoyed the drumming.

there should have been a last layer left for a vocal part. I truely hope you will come back to this versions of yourself and add your voice. I love to see, how concentrated you are, when you play your instruments.

This slow build feels really good.

Nice and smooth!!

I love the bass part on the video, it's showing your energy and feeling to the song, of all your parts together. And it's impressing you can play the bass so moving lol A nice song again Orange Drink!

Ah nice experiment, and great execution. I have a looper similar to that and I know it's a pain to do it properly and harmonize cleanly with oneself. I enjoyed witnessing the progressive buildup of the whole track and the general vibe of the track.

Random observations!
What a beautiful color your guitar has!
Oh you play the hihat with left hand and hit the snare with the right one? Also loved the last spastic drum fill!
I dig the good bass sound you got out of that squier, round and nice. THOSE STRINGS ARE SHINY.

Also very nice touch with Frank checking the box at the end! smile

This may be the first 12/4 loop pedal jam I've heard, very cool.  Definitely enjoyed that main riff, it becomes hypnotic after while.

The build-up and progression of the guitar is so pleasing, fantastic looping skills!  Great effect with the ambient lights coming on with the drums, that second half really completes this one with the bass.

Nice work on the guitars, very pleasing sounds.

nice jam, hypnotizing, cool to see you lay it all out. I liked the bass addition best, so satisfying when that comes in. No intro from you, I missed it, but change is good too. A different version of you. And Frank checked the box, so much change!

Excellent shoegazin verb on the guitar.  Such a cool sound.  The drum fills and sound are bad ass man.  I wish I could play cuz damn you make it look fun.  Then the bass kicks in and it all ties together so nicely.  Thank you for the inspiration your music and performances continue to provide.  Awesome work man!

I'm really glad you picked up the bass because I was about to have a panic attack... but it was satisfying and well worth the wait! Cool surfy riffs on the Jazz Master with your trademark Orange Drink tone that I wish I could get in a pedal smile

(I'm mad my comment didn't post when I tried to post it on Tuesday, I feel I explained the next paragraph better and more concise then.)

I really, really like your rock (non-synth) instrumental tracks and this one's particularly a treat due to its "some assembly required" type video. I've been smitten w/ your sound, and I couldn't quite put my finger on it: you mentioned in a previous reply to a comment of mine that you had "90s in your DNA" or something of the sort, and thanks to you I went back to hear The Flaming Lips, some older Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails -- and the thing is -- none of that sounds like Orange Drink. What Orange Drink represents is akin to a memory (a love?), or perhaps a collective musical intelligence of that era spun into something that is less afraid to say something real, often quite personal in ways that the 90s were fundamentally afraid of. What Orange Drink is NOT is that it's not a kitchy / hazy / throwback of any kind, this is a critical distinction between channeling collective musical intelligence vs. "kinda sounding 90s sometimes."

And this evocation is kinda genius on every level, including parallels in the construction of the tune it reminds me of...

If there's ever an Orange Drink pedal, NWSPR and I want serial numbers 2 and 3, respectively.

Thank you!  Just chillin’ in my Octopus’ garden (in da shade)

glad you liked it and ALSO YES I will give you and Josh a looping tutorial.  Anything in particular I can shed light on?  What kind of looping devices do you all have?

…Frank cameo OR is Frank a version of myself?  *loud audience gasp*

It was fun to finally show “how it’s made” so to speak.  I wanted to do it in real-time but the changing of microphones added some boring time.  smile

Thanks so much, nice to finally put this out there in the world.

Thanks!  I’m excited the drums worked out as well as they did.

I was thinking about it, but didn’t really have an idea!  I’ll do a Versions Of Yourself (Version) for you in a future week!  Glad you enjoyed me “IN THE ZONE” ha ha

Thank you, I used to play bass in a band, and that’s where I got all my bass-dance moves smile  Glad you liked it!

Thanks, would love to hear you do some loop experiments!

Random responses!
Thanks, I really took a long time to find the right shade of color of this particular model.  The store kept ordering ones and I said “no thank u please” but I think we got it 3rd try.  I was embarrassed but felt like I didn’t want my family (who got me the guitar as a Christmas present) to spend all that money on something I wasn’t totally happy with.

Yes, I do “open hand” aka left on hat, right on snare.

Those are neon yellow strings!  Blighters_Rock got a new Jazz Bass and now I really want one too, but I feel like Squire with a little EQ is just as good sounding, but I guess the feel is what you’re paying for.

Thanks, I didn’t even realize it was 12/4 but that’s awesome now.  Glad it wasn’t obnoxiously repetitive, that’s the worry for something like this.

Thanks!  The Electro Harmonix has a BPM locked looping option, so all praise goes to that!  Glad you liked the drum lights, I was out of ideas lol  - the bass was my favorite part!

I did intros the last few weeks because I was like “MM IS DEPENDING ON ME” smile

Did Frank check the box, or is he a version of myself?!?!?!?!??!?!??!?!!??! (see above comment to Emily about a  *loud audience gasp*)

Thanks so much, that’s my new DL4 MKii hooking it up with that awesome “constant” reverb sound.  Drums are FUN!  You SHOULD play!  thanks buddy for the kind words and watching/listening/all that awesome “schtuff”

ha ha ha ha, yeah, I know it went on a little long, but hopefully a nice payoff!  I’m going to tell you the OD tone secrets at the bottom of this in my comment to ilzxc!!!!!!!!

My WB comments sometimes spontaneously disappear, so my pro-tip is to write your comment, then copy it to have it on your CPU’s clipboard, and THEN post the comment.  If it freaks out, just refresh the page and paste your comment!  The other thing, if you are going to download a track, is to do so only after you’ve commented.  Sometimes it times out, but you’ll also lose any typed comments.

I really really appreciate your deep multi-tiered comment.  I think at first I almost took offense to 90s comparisons because my ego wanted to be “timeless” or “defying categorization” - but on second take, that’s kind of silly because I very obviously am intentionally using established genre as a tool - and the multifaceted juxtaposition of established sounds is the original thing that I’m doing.  I’ll admit, I got insecure about it smile  Also, one can’t help but be infused by the music that they listened to particularly as they learned their instrument.  I taught myself how to play guitar by listening to Smashing Pumpkins, Stone Temple Pilots, Beck, Radiohead, NIN etc.  Also not a bad thing because all those bands are legendary.  Quentin Tarantino and P.T. Anderson are two filmmakers that grew up watching a ton of movies in the VHS era, as opposed to attending film school, and they (imho) have a very different take on genre as opposed to other “classically trained” filmmakers.  I appreciate you backing me up and helping me embrace my 90s with more confidence as opposed to shame.  Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

SEAL IS THE BEST

NWSPR HERE IS THE SECRET REVEALED:

Orange Drink Guitar Tone:

1: Fender Stainless Steel FLATWOUND guitar strings
2: Seymour Duncan Antiquity II single coil pickups. (main thing is that single coil is important)
3: Electro Harmonix Holy Grail pedal (I just got the DL4 MKii which has secret reverbs and I really like them.)
4: Solid State guitar amplifier.  (I feel like this important for some reason, but I can’t really confirm why)
5: ???
6: Profit!

*gasp - AHHHHHHHH!*

well we just re-watched the video - you kinda show at the beginning how you built the piece...
what i wondered was is the video recorded live with the loops you set up? - like you just played drums off the loops? how many loops can you make at a time with your pedal?  why did you choose the looping pedal you use? - it's just so neat!

we don't have any looping pedals - i think it would just be fun to hear more about you process and how you built this track - did you do it in your head? - do you just play off a riff? - are you hearing a beat first?

(just in awe of what you are doing here)

I'm assuming step 5. ??? is technique and talent? This seems like a lot of work.  I'll just wait for the Orange Drink foot pedal we've been hearing so much about. Thanks for the details!
