Uplifter

I finally broke down and wrote something with an arpeggio! smile  I also used the OP-1 after avoiding it for a long time, since I know it pretty well and I was challenging myself to make things with other devices.  This is supposed to be an NES style chiptune, inspired by the music of Shadowgate, except upbeat instead of spooky.

I think I should have EQed out some mid-low on the bass but whatev

I responded to some comments and I'm slowly getting there!

Sounds like an NES dance party.  Fun vibe for sure.

Catchy arps, and great beat too!

Uplifting AND Minor Scales and NES, perfect!

oh my (a)days, I thought this was in C major because it was all white keys but it must have been A MINOR

WHOAAAAAAA

So how did you know it was Minor?  Was it the arp or could you just tell by the bassline?

** music theory panic attack **

Wait

Now I am in music theory panic mode!! Installing a keyboard to my phone and testing omg. Will report back !!

Uh oh

Yea, it's definitely in A minor for the most part, the break is in F Lydian. There are 7 modes using all the white keys (I'm sure there's an equivalent scale for each of them), but the details are a bit finnicky.

Whatever, it's a great song and has great sounds, even if it's simple in its execution. You're probably wondering if this is grunge: it might be, it's chiptune, chiptune has the quality that any one song can cover a wide range of genres you wouldn't normally associate with one another.

Got a raw in your face feel, but retains the trademark Orangedrink melodic signature. Cool drum textures, keep changing up and keep the track fresh. Super upbeat fun vibe! Fun counter to last weeks slower heavier track.

Niiiice! This is getting me nostalgic for the halcyon days of chiptune.

Great stuff!

triple panic attack, the picture didn't show up!

Great chiptune! Chords in the break are so nice, I wanna steal them!

Yay! Love it! So different! You're so extremely  versatile, man!
Wish I could come to your gig! Unfortunately Chicago is not around the corner ...
But would love to see/hear how you'll pull off all those different styles ...
Maybe you should livestream the event! (hint-hint ...)

Go arps. I love arps. I'm in super music theory panic mode now ... but always kind of am. A minor and F Lydian. Oh boy. Can I kind of hear minor-ey vibes. Maybe. But yay, this was a hypnotic groove, and this penguin gif is doing it for me. NO working getting done now.

Love the groovy bassline as it brought me back to those ice-climber playing days.  The drums in the middle are super toight!  Yay for arps!

ahhh i'm waaaay behind in listening to WB music!

drums and programming is excellent;

also lovin' the music theory chat this thread has inspired ;-)

Chiptunes are not my thing, but i like the drum sounds and the buildup

lol at your last comment.  and thanks for the theory breakdown about all the white keys, that's really wild to me.
