Untitled Live Performance

By orangedrink on April 29, 2018 10:07 pm

This was the first thing I wrote on the Push 2!  Similar to last week's track, key of F, Phyrgian Scale.

This week I added some different sections and recorded a live performance.  The mixing is wonky, and I'm not thrilled about the transition from A to B.  I would like to work on this a bit more in the future, but for right now, here's the live take!  I should have filmed myself performing it!  It was super fun to do, and hopefully you can hear it in the track.

This is my best attempt to imitate my hero, Aphex Twin - particularly his work under the aliases AFX and The Tuss.  When I work on it in the future, I want to add more "one off" effects and tweaks, as he is known to do.

No Orange Drink Weekly Beat is complete without a picture of the hottest man of all time, Derek Jacobi!  smile heart

dig it!!! can definitely see where you pulled the inspiration from Aphex now that you've mentioned it, lots of broken-but-not-broken sounds and the overall acid line is a massive throwback. nice smile

Oh, dang--yes...this is completely badass. (So badass that I hit "submit comment" without actually having typed yet.  Particularly digging the Aphexy pitch bends and intricate percussion!

def has that wonky, sinister AFX feel. really great live mix, that percussion is grooving and love how those chords emerge & bend!

Killer bass sound and progression. So resonant.

Great improv; quite coherent. I've gone back and forth re getting a Push, but ultimately decided my way of working makes it redundant. Besides, I already have way too much gear ::)

This is fantastic, had me hooked right from the start, love the acid bass, just recently got the 2 remixes by AFX 12”, wanted that for a long time, love the flow coma remix on there

This is acid with depth... I like it very much. I love the no-nonsense beat carrying it relentlessly on.

Dig that old school groove and yes, definitely a touch of earlier AFX.  That aggressive pitch shift on the pads adds effect.
