Nothing Exists

Happy 1/2 way point! Wow, what a year it has been so far. The time has flown by. Every week I think, "I gotta make another track already? I just made one!" It has been exhausting trying to maintain any sort of creative output as well as the discipline to put the work into writing, programming, playing, recording, editing, mixing, and mastering! But you folks make it all worth it! The comments make my day and everyone's ridiculously awesome music inspires me. Even if some of you think your music is "bad" the fact that you did it and put in the effort inspires me to just keep going. I heard a good quote: if you're not dead, your life's work isn't over.
Last week's track was made on the PO-20 Arcade Pocket Operator, this week's track was made on a PO-12 Rhythm Pocket Operator connected to a PO-24 Office Pocket Operator! I am really excited about these little guys. It feels awesome to improvise electronic music on "hardware". I feel like A BIG KID NOW. I wrote some patterns during the week and then sequenced them all live while adding effects and switching on the fly. Minimal editing and some volume touchups. This is a longer track, and I like to think of it as a kind of DJ set. Hopefully there is enough variety to keep things fresh. One of my favorite parts is the last kick drum which gets pitched down. That sounded absolutely insane on my subwoofer. I can't believe these little things make such incredible sounds.
I am slightly undecided/insecure about the track title. It came to me in the middle of the jam, because I felt like the beat was sucking me into a type of black hole, filled with atonal noise. I fear the title comes across too superficially, as if I am trying to be a tough guy and trying to sound scary and dark. But the reality of those words is that there is a beauty and freedom in considering that it could be possible that the only things that exist are minds and ideas, and that we can be free of the corporal world. And in a very light sense, it could be interpreted to simply say, "The state of nothingness is a thing that exists!" in a way to not be afraid of nothingness. Nothingness is a temporal state, and it is natural and not bad! I'm not sure why but the rave-drone-noise nature of the track got me feeling/thinking about abstract states of existence.......in a fun way! I hope I can communicate that with the music!
