Cole Train

By orangedrink on March 1, 2020 6:48 pm

This is a slowed down loop of my previous song, "Hype Train".

Got my grandson Cole to say "ahhhhhh" and I pitched it up.  This was all recorded in his bedroom while he was playing videogames.  Everything was done on Ableton on a laptop.

Hence: Cole Train - I thought it was clever smile

Played a great show on Friday, still exhausted from it.  I finished this track on Friday but am uploading it on Sunday.  There is an audition to play at a music festival, but I missed the signup deadline and now I'm filled with anxiety thinking about whether I should show up at the audition and beg for a time slot.

My husband's (not Derek Jacobi, my real husband) birthday is tomorrow, so that is fun!

Great groove to this.  It does have a bit of a train-like feel to it.  Dig the pitch-shifted vocals.  Also happy birthday to your husband!

Clever and nice.

this is so good. perfect example of an electronic piece that just keeps stacking more and more elements on, bit by bit, and it just keeps getting better with each new element. oh man, the delayed keys/synth around 1/3 in. so good. especially when the 4/4 comes in!

Was expecting freejazz, but you gave me a nice electronic ride. happy birthday to your man.

This is great, checks all the categories: head nodding, claps/tambourine, synth, great job mixing in the pitched vocals

Deep groove, really like this one slowed down.

Yeah! I like the slowed down vibe.  Gives space for you to fill with some cool arp stabs. Love the drum patterns. Really complex with several layers. Not sure it that is a pitched down crash? Adds a gong-like majesty. I hope you crash that audition cause that festival needs to serve up some motherfuckin Orangedrink.  And happy birthday to yours!

Very cool, it has an epic almost operatic vibe to it with the sound taking up a lot of space. If Just Blaze went electronic he'd do this. Happy Birthday to your husband and looking forward to Cole's live vocal debut

This is fantastic, creates a whole new vibe! Happy belated birthday to your husband smile

Swanky train. You should totally go.

I'm a sucker for beats with slow ride cymbals.  Those stereo arps sound awesome with the beat too.  Well done as always!

Good stuff!

Love the gif - tried to vary the arrangement without it being boring or too same-y since there aren't really other "movements"

Not sure what you are referring to for the crash?  not the pitched down vocal?

and thanks!

really nice flow!  happy birthday real husband!  the ahhh's are a great touch!

A surprising piece. I didn't knew what to expect, because it constantly evolves from dark cinematic soundtrack to electronic rise and back. Really engaging work, man!!!

I'm planning to catch up with your work soon. Best wishes to your significant other, Bad Granpa!

All aboard the Cole Train!!! Super cool track, love it 100%! Happy birthday hubby!

Started with that solid head-nodding piano groove and unfolded with all kinds of nice texture. Happy birthday real husband!

Very good one! the drums are marvelous slow and fast at the same time if that makes sense... Love that choir!

Sorry, I was not very articulate with my comment.  When I was listening to the track, I liked the sound of the slowed down drum pattern and I think some elements like the ride cymbal and the crash cymbal sound slowed down and maybe lower in pitch.  That's what I meant by pitched down. The cymbals sound especially full and lush, and I was attributing that to the lower speed.  But could just be the natural sound of the kit. Everything sounds heftier and more full.

That is a clever title. Some wild sax on top of this would blow all the minds. happy bday to hubby, and let us know about the festival!!

Definitely digging the textures here, very hypnotic. The subtle little synth in there totally makes it too.

Another great track that invites you to listen again and again and...... smile

I'm trying to catch up on songs/comments before the end of the year smile

ah yes, I think everything was pitched down together.
