hi ppl that read comments
oh, hey, I've been wrong about a lot of things too!
omg when Frank comes into the frame and you hug him heart heart heart

Shit... I accidentally hit back and my comment got deleted. Here we go again.

I really loved this section:

how many of us died wondering
all this time underneath
how many of us died underneath
all this time wondering

the lyrical switcheroo on underneath/wondering is great, the melody is catchy, the delay that snaps on when you're about to change section helps add some nice flavor to the transition.

Also, the dense buildup section at the end is "that great OD sound". Solid entry!

Gosh I sure love your singing! Sounds like you really mean it. Thanks!!!

Hey buster!  Glad we're in the same boat.  Glad you liked the ending smile

I SAID TO MYSELF "I HOPE BLIGHTERS ROCK APPRECIATES THIS LYRICAL SWITCHEROO" I SWEAR I THOUGHT THIS AS I WAS WALKING DOWN THE STAIRS

So glad you liked it, in all honestly, you inspired the little lyric tricks like that!  Thanks for the delay comment, I was really proud of it, and glad you noticed it.  Glad to have an OD sound!  ty buddy

HEY LOOK I'M KEEPING UP WITH THE COMMENTS

One of your best, Drew. First, let me be boring and shitty and technical: (a) wondering / underneath reversal is a very nice touch; (b) the synth doubling is insanely good; (c) the refrain is one of my favorite things ever as is the build-up (w/ the brass); (d) the triumphant delivery of "apparently I've been wrong about a lot of things" (and the additional layer of juxtaposition you get from the video)... masterstroke.

This is the most Orange Drink song ever. It seduces w/ its attractive surface and then goes elfin' deep, man. I don't know how many times I've heard this, and I've been trying to find the right words to explain why this one's hitting way different. The best I can do is tell you -- I'd politely decline an opportunity to remix this one, BECAUSE I LOVE IT SO GODDAMN MUCH.

I'm flattered and honored. Keep up the good work!

I love your guitar on this! And great singing, I especially like your harmony part when you turn off the lights. Wonderful end heart

At least this song is right!

This is a simpler video in many ways, but there are elements of it that makes it one of the most touching.
At the start, as you unpack the VHS tapes and the audio (?) tapes it feels as if you're going through your past, your memories. Coupled with your lyrics, it is as if a person is questioning the version of the past they remember, and if it's not, just like all versions, a biased version. And maybe it's time to revisit it and look at it from a different angle.

At 1:32, as you switch the light and get in front of the blue light and going for the haaaa - this was a nice lofi moment of changing the vibe. smile

The highlight of this video however is towards the end, as you repeat how you've been wrong about a lot of things. When Frank enters the frame, you can feel the effect it has physically on you, on the eyes, the body posture. It's not you singing for the camera, it changes into a human interaction, and it seems to imply so much. The hug at the end was a beautiful resolution to this moment of vulnerability.

I enjoy this, real expression of feelings and emotions, real humanity. Thank you for your weekly sunshines.

A beautiful song! I echo all that was said here in the comments, love the lyrics and instrumentation, but one more thing I find is how you wrote it in such a way to make it so relatable! You could easily write about yourself only, but you somehow manage to include others in your musings about your own journey, and that's wonderful! Thanks for taking us on such rides big_smile

Did I hear a melodica in there? or was it a synth? tongue either way really nice layers.

also WUUHUU we're on the second row!!!

Another orangedrink bangers to-get Stucky in my head always looking forwards too sitting down without my better half to listen too our weekly orangedrink tune. Also keep an eye out-in your  mail

I like the way the arrangement builds and develops after the first verse, that fuzz bass synth part and vocal harmonies and other layers kicking in. Wouldn't have picked it earlier in the song but there are somehow shades of NIN creeping in for the last chorus/refrain. Nice work.

Great track as per usual.  Your voice sounds really good on this one!

Jammed this hard on my commute, this is a HIT, an absolute gem. A tour de force. Congrats on this!

The acoustic guitar foundation sounds great and then the other elements just work beautifully.  I can totally relate to the title and have visited the theme of questioning myself a few times over the years.  Also the video is simple but so eloquent and expresses so much with so little.

so good! every other comment here says exactly what i feel already, but the one thing i can add:
it's amazing to witness the particular juxtaposition that occurs in this song, where your voice sings out 'defiantly'! with a force of conviction that really pierces the heart, and yet at the same time, you're singing about 'being wrong'(or questioning what you once knew), it just lends this added brilliant touch of strength thought paradox to the whole thing. that's the sweetest touch! heart

^haha, apparently i'm get alot of things wrong too: i meant *strength THROUGH paradox

I really liked the vocals layering at the end. Way to go. Keep it wrong.

Nice work!  Especially love the harmonies in the refrain and the video is really creative with the lighting!  (next to the VHS tapes, are those audio cassettes or those tiny Hi-8 video tapes?)

Really enjoyed that. The intro starts off really strong with great lyrics and that synth that comes in at around 0:30 is awesome sounding! I really like the repeating line at the end. Combined with the instruments it sounds powerful and massive.

it is so interesting to do this weekly practice and have a sort of life journal
thank you for the vulnerability in sharing yours
i think artist who are able do that have really achieved something special/magical
the guitar texture is really lovely and the mix with the vocals & synth all blends so beautifully
here's to being wrong & new growth!

Love the harmony you've got with that, what is it, organ? And killing it on guitar as usual.

Wow, love the thick layers and harmonies that roll in after the first verses of guitar and vocals.  The song sounds full and warm to start with in the intro and then all the bottom comes in and it's super lush.  Great harmonies in the second half as well.  Sounds like the continue to build.  The hug at the end of the video is the best part of this week! That's the Orange Drink brand... songs like a warm hug.

Love the subtle distortion on the bass or guitar.  It has such a soothing sound along with your vocal harmonies that are hard not to sing along to.   The harmony at times made me think of Alice In Chains' vocal style too.  Really cool outro effect too.

Elements reminded me of a blend between NIN and Nirvana weirdly enough.  Dug that vocal build up too!

Oh man dude, such an emotional tune, the refrain at the end, I just...wow. heart, Parsley

These comments have said it all! Great work. Emotional and powerful. Instantly know it's OD. I was like,is this just acoustic guitar, then woah, all these other layers build it so well. We're all wrong about so much, admitting it is the first step. I need to go tell my wife right now that I've been wrong about lots of things, and she'll be like, yer darn right buster!

this is really cool! great job!

thank you thank you thank you thank you.  thank you for your friendship, your support, your compliments, your encouragement, and least of all - thanks for being an awesome person and musician.  I’m so happy to be WB classmates/family with you - really helps me keep going, especially when that empty box stares at me!

I’m grateful that I can do a lot of weird music but still have something that makes it all “Orange Drink” - it’s funny but I think the thing that I sometimes call “not being good enough” is actually the thing that leaves the “Orange Drink” fingerprints on everything.  So maybe I should stop saying that and just embrace the imperfection because it’s the only thing that separates me from anyone else who could do anything else.

Anyway, thanks!

That means a lot to me - I was actually a little nervous about just putting single vocal notes out there, nakedly.  I REALLY appreciate your music so much!!

I can always count on you on a deep dive into the videos - often teaching me things I never knew!  Yes, literally addressing “the old tapes” - the old messages I’ve told myself (One major one was “I’m not a good musician/artist and I can’t write music/finish projects in a timely fashion”)  Interesting to think that the “changing of the light” is also “revisiting the past at a different angle”.  I’m glad you got a lot out of the ending - simple, but just tried to pour my heart and soul in that moment.  It was intense to do!

Thank you so much.  It is a huge (and slightly overwhelming) compliment to be able to ride that balance between personal and relatable.  I am only alive today because other artists brought me on their journey, so I aspire to do the same. Hey - I really really am grateful for you and your vulnerability in your work as well, especially your singing.  we’re in this together!

no melodica, but an Ableton bass synth, and then an OP-1 higher register synth. (but I do own a melodica!)

Thank you!  I think there are quite a few NIN songs where they just have that downstroke dissonant acoustic guitar combined with some god-awful loud noise, so DEFINITELY a match there! smile

Glad you noticed and enjoyed the layers - it was interesting to mix because I still wanted the synth bass to be the dominating factor.

Thanks!  I feel like my voice is getting a little better, probably because I’m trying harder to do vocals more frequently in WB!

Thank you for the comments.  As a one-person band trying to make a living, I keep thinking that I have to be “perfect” and “better than everyone else” and it is just such a relief to let go of (some) of my perfectionism.  And then to find that people like the real me much more than the fake, trying to be something else version of me.  Thanks, Cosmic.

Boy I loved that it “pierced your heart” - that’s beautiful.  I can’t tell you how powerful and intense it felt to finally say that out loud, and just put that line out so nakedly and unabashedly in a song.  This is why we play music!

Thanks!  I think it starts off a little disorienting but that’s maybe the fun of it.  Really wanted that synth to be overpowering, but the vocals to still stand out and it was an interesting mixing challenge.  ALSO: YOU ARE A GREAT MUSICIAN!

Honestly Em, it’s a little scary putting this on YouTube because that feels way more public than WB, but the support and love of you and the WB fam helps me compensate for the YT fear.  If someone bullies me or whatever, I know the WB crew has got my back.  and musically, I can see how the safe space of the WB crew is actually helping me be more emotionally transparent in my work!  so THANK YOU for helping me believe in myself.  I think you are such a good role model for vulnerability and the concept of “strength in sharing fragility” - your work is so “powerfully delicate” and that makes you a stronger person. heart

an OP-1 synth!  I have recently been trying a thing where I write vocal melodies with the keyboard, instead of just mumbling gibberish, and it’s interesting because my hands will do different note patterns that my mouth wouldn’t do.  Thanks buddy!! heart u all

My dream is to play this at a show and have the crowd sing the end.  That’d be so neat.

The end effect is the song bounced to OP-1 and then screwed up via the GRID effect!  Thanks muh man!

Awesome comparison, two all time favorites.  I sometimes think that Nirvana would have gotten noisier and noisier if they were still around, but still keeping their catchy rock compositions at their core, all with Cobain’s amazing emotional depth and I guess that’s what I’m trying to do here.

I didn’t really feel this way until reading your comment right this second, but this song feels like the sequel to “Everything Is A Waste Of My Time”.  Means a lot to me that this song hit you, specifically.

It’s cool to have done so much music that I’m starting to have a signature (SAME can be said of you, my dear!).  It’s really cool how a lot of people have responded so kindly, with great humility of themselves, about how it’s good and feels relieving to admit our faults.  I’m glad i’m not alone!
