White Deer Ridge (More Barn)

By onezero on August 11, 2024 9:12 pm

Having heard of hit 'em, a genre that's come into existence from a dream experienced by Matmos's Drew Daniel, I thought I'd try making this week's guitar-only piece match the hit 'em template: 212 bpm, 5/4, crunched-out sounds. This is indeed 5/4, 212 bpm (half-time, admittedly), and I automate the extent of Ableton's Roar plugin on each track to supply the crunch. Otherwise, just convolution reverb and the usual multiband compression/eq. Guitar is, as it has been lately, PureSalem Mendiola.

The title comes from a ridge crossed by PA route 554. "More Barn" because there's more barn. (If you'd like to hear this with less barn, I've uploaded that one also.)

ooh, love that crunch! this was a cool twist for you.
MORE. BARN.

I really like this. Super crunchy resonant guitars painting such a post rock vibe. Just great!

I like the sound of this!!! Crunched out sound, indeed. Lovely cleaner tones as well. They sound rich. I'm mighty curious how this track would feel with an ongoing pulse underneath it. From a bass and/or drums. Think it could easily slide into epic territories then. Anyway, sweet stuff!

It almost sounds like Dan Electro's fab fuzz, somehow it resonates with me, also a nice dirgey feel that I like.

Even when you do it, it just feels very relaxing, with a buzz that tickles.
