Wading

During the few weeks I've not worked with the Fahey-tuned Univox, the weather's changed: it's much warmer, and the wood, remembering that it was once a tree, has taken on some of the humidity in the air. I've had to loosen the strings to keep the Bb F tuning...but that's resulted in a bit of floppiness in the low end, and a less defined high end. But I've rolled with it. It's a snapshot of what things are at the moment, though I may bump things up a half step for tonal reasons.
My composition process this week was a bit more intuitive than some other weeks--rather than prioritizing the grid, I let phrases take as long as they wanted to take, and have the space they seemed to want. As a result, there's a real variety of phrase lengths: some six measures, some five, some four, some eight...and I brought them together in a way that felt right, rather than impose a four-measure grid on them.
So this is $60 Univox hollowbody in Bb F Bb F Bb C, no effects, a touch of convolution reverb, a touch of compression/eq on the stereo bus.
The title comes from NJ County Road 542, which at one point goes over the Wading River.
