Route 51 Revisited

By onezero on December 20, 2020 11:56 pm

51--we've all made it this far. Another just-before-the-deadline submission; I didn't start on the track until late Friday, when I built up some rhythms with Ableton's 64 Pad Kit Jazz drum rack (adding Max Humanizer and an automated pipe resonator with Corpus), and then started playing with Spitfire Audio's Soft Piano, ending up with two channels of that. Saturday I tracked some bass and more piano, not totally sure which keys I'd be working in. Sunday I tracked more bass and piano, settling on a key, and finally a quick pass of Res-O-Glas guitar through Vox Wah (for tone-shaping).

Sends: two Echo channels, one room-sized convolution reverb, and one channel of Valhalla Supermassive for the looooooong reverb. Full-chain multiband compression on the output.

Title comes from this being week 51, which brings to mind the name of a road near my childhood home, as well as the obvious hat-tip to Bob.

Chill delay effects on that bass! Very nice piano and bass combo to enjoy with my morning coffee. Love the change up in the bridge halfway through. Cheers to another great WBs year!

My music is a lot of things, but one thing it is not is "chill"

I don't know how to chill!  Your music is so chill!!!!!!  Love the twinkling piano and the reverb/echo on the guitar adds a little frosty winter atmosphere

I like the bass.

Lots and lots of bass. The chill resides in the bass.

Thank you!

I think the chill...comes from melodic instruments (including bass) and sometimes drums playing half-tempo. There's more space, and things seem to be a bit more...relaxed. (I'm also arguably trying to avoid inducing anxiety with the music I'm working on. We've had enough anxiety.)
