Polygon Listener

By onezero on June 12, 2016 10:25 pm

A lot of my activity this week involved being careful with the middle finger on my left hand (weird nail injury a couple weeks ago, so guitar and bass playing were out--it's getting better), but also I spent a bunch of time on the delay matrix patch in Max/MSP--this time adding delay modulation.  Right now a very little bit of that goes a long way, but I'm still fiddling.

With all that going on, it seemed like some straight up house was the thing, though inevitably it got complicated.  There's a Drum Rack of acoustic drums (through Dynamic Tube's Hot Driven Tape), a Drum Rack of MPC samples (through Saturator's Hot Tubes), along with an Impulse instrument of hand claps, and a Collision instrument on the Airy Tube preset (for more impact in the bass drum realm).  Bass was a Rhodes line (in Electric), and I used another Electric line for one of the lead voices (Dynamic Tube's Hot Driven Tape). I also added another Electric voice based on the Organ3 Vintage preset.

There's a slow-decay Analog synth line that goes through the modulation delay matrix I'm working on, with about 1 Hz modulation and 10% intensity.  It ended up interestingly floaty.

Other sends: Filter Delay, Beat Repeat, and Convolution Reverb (Berlin Power Station). I used a lot of automation to limit the filter delay on percussion voices and the lead electric piano.

Everything got auto-pan for panning and volume variation, and almost everything got M4L Humanizer, except the MPC, bass Rhodes, organ, and Analog synth. And there's Full Chain Master on the 2-mix.  I went through a lot of editing passes to keep it from being too cluttered; we'll see how that turns out.

Title from something I spent a lot of hours on at work this week.

In times like these, it's hard to know what to do. So here's some house music. (Kind of.  Apologies to all of you who are a lot better at this.)

AAAARGH, this is so great again smile
love the hihats and claps so much. Great delaying work!
Very moody, great how those chords come in towards the end!

Thank you!  Glad you like it!  (I was wondering if I'd gone a little overboard on the hi-hats...)

I am a polygon listener!  Speaking of polygons, this makes me think of Stunt Race FX for some unknown reason.

Sweet track! I am digging the hats and claps, well done!

Nice track! That delay is awesome, love the subtler organ lines that pepper through. Mix really great as usual.

Beautiful impression
