Returning to four tracks this week. I had a few syncopated rhythms in mind, and after putting them down, tracked a lot of bass lines, a second batch responding to the first. Then in a second session, recorded even more bass, coming up with the left-channel hook that starts the piece. And after that, guitar seemed superfluous, though I did briefly try putting acoustic guitar into this...and didn't like what I was coming up with, so I stuck with two basses.
Instruments: Ableton Drum Rack (64-pad Jazz Kit) through Drum Buss. Drum Rack of hand claps, with Auto-Pan. Two channels of Epiphone P-J bass (P pickup only), both through EQ-8 to roll off slightly different amounts of low-end, Glue Compressor, and the left channel getting a bit of Ableton Cabinet.
Sends: two convolution reverbs (one with a smaller room, one with larger), each preceded by high-pass Auto-Filter, and Echo, preceded by LFO band-pass Auto-Filter.
Title comes from Dumas's The Count of Monte Cristo--Edmond Dantès is referred to as Number 34 during his imprisonment in in the Château d'If.

That higher bass feels real good. Just hanging loosely there.
i like the 2 basses
That is a sweet groove. The beat is really good, i was bopping my head while listening to the track while working. There are a lot of nice bass lines there, I think it was a good choice to not add guitars and leave as is.

Thank you! Oddly...August 28th was the anniversary of the first publication of the first serialized installment of the Count of Monte Cristo--in 1844.
