Another organic kind of construction--I wanted to hear something with an 808, so put some beats together with the 808 Status drum rack, threw in a couple returns of Echo, put on some hand claps, and sat with it for a few days before tracking bass (EQ 8 bass rolloff) and guitar (PureSalem Mendiola through Balls KWB, through Vox Wah). I put in a spacey pad with Analog's Soft Strings, and then shuffled things into place. There's also a track of Operator that's in kind of a sparse marimba role.  And a return channel of convolution reverb.

On repeat listening, I'm getting a bit annoyed by that 808 rim sound...I did try turning that down somewhat, but apparently not quite enough.

Look forward to hearing your bass all week, and you do not disappoint! Loving the Manchester / Psychedelic aspects. You're getting a nontraditional 808 sound (avoiding the cliche 808 sounds, much more organic). I like the rim shot as well.  Would not take it out. Well done!

Super tasty space. Love the bass and those wah guitar. Like the 808s as well. I use the Status rack sometimes too.

Vibeeeeees!

So nice bass melodies! I like this cool guitar sounds and how it is moving around me.

Nice and mellow.

Love how long it took me to figure out where the bar begins - nice basslines

The bass sounds really stood out. The added mix of room made it work well.

Thank you!  Glad you like it!  (And that's high praise about the bass!)  In retrospect, I think I should have added a lower velocity to the rim, because some subtleties got lost through the bit-crushing. But still, it works!

Thank you!  I think it's what NWSPR said--it's obviously the 808 we love, but tweaked a little so that it's not so over-familiar.

Thank you!  Glad you like it!  Whenever I'm not sure where to put something in a mix, I tend to reach for Auto-Pan.  And if I have several different tracks I'd like to have moving around, I'll give them auto-panning at different slow frequencies, so they don't all move together, but are all moving individually. It's an effect I'm fond of!

Hahaha!  I do occasionally end up having to solve The Case of the Missing Downbeat.  (In this case, I'm guessing it's those syncopated rims...) Thank you!

Thank you!  That's another trick I tend to like--sending bass and drums to the same room-impulse convolution reverb.  It makes things hang together in a band-in-a-room kind of way.  (One tip I've found helpful has been to do a high-pass filter in the return channel before the convolution reverb, to avoid bass buildup.)
