Happy 2024! It's good to be back!
This one follows from my trend of the last couple years of working with guitar only, often with minimal effects. Some of the reasoning behind this is its immediacy: tonal variation comes from my fingers, as opposed to pedals. There's also the aspect of plugging in and playing without a lot of setup time. This vein may run out after a while, but for now I'm still hearing new music this way. Also within the last year, I've challenged myself to make shorter pieces, and try to get to the point sooner. This one still starts with a bit of an atmospheric intro that (to me) makes sense with the rest of the piece.
Guitar: PureSalem Mendiola. Effects: there's a line hum from the bridge pickup in a few places; I've put some low-pass EQ-8 on the affected clips. But it's still there if you listen for it, so I'm accepting that as part of the history of this recording. (Odd that it's on the hum bucking bridge pickup.) There's also some convolution reverb and an eq/mastering plugin on the stereo mix. Converter: UA Volt-1, this time without the vintage tone circuit engaged.
The title comes from the northern terminus of PA route 523, this being the 523rd weekly piece I've done since beginning the practice with WB 2014.
