The Good, The Bad, And The Bass

By NWSPR on March 1, 2020 11:52 pm

This weeks title comes from a comment Gab made about last weeks track sounding like a western (movie theme). So immediately this title popped into my head and I just needed the music.  Perfect because I have some good, and some bad bass from my Gibson Ripper and several synthesizers.  Other sounds from virtual synths and Roland TR-626 drum machine.

I'm trying to work on hooks and melodies and really hammering the melody.  Does it work or maybe just gets repetitive? Also did a kind of Motown back beat in the choruses which was fun.  Hope you like it.  See you in the comments!  And happy March... Spring is almost here.

Thanks for the inspiration Gab!

Awesome upbeat energy and the bass for sure sounds great.  It's not too repetitive, although I've been noticing lately how many big famous songs are really repetitive.

Heck yeah! Thanks for making cool music that sparks my imagination! This track put me in a great mood! That chorus melody is on point and the backbeat is a great touch! The reprises were on point and didn't stagnate the track smile Oh and the synth/guitar duo in the intro was giving me some nice Big Country vibes heart

Oops, just realized I wrote 'on point' twice! That was the overall feel I had while listening and wanted to make sure not to forget to mention it hehehe

What a jam man, this is sweet.  Yeah, the hammering the melody totally works here, you're changing up enough throughout to keep it interesting.  I love the arrangement and orchestration of everything on this track.  It works so well.

A bit different from your normal style, and I really dig it. Feels very natural, the bass is gives it some real life, plus that bass tone is fantastic. Oh, and I didn't find the melody repetitive.

is there a new Like button or am I going crazy? anyways, I pressed "Like" for the first time on this song.

Those choruses rock! Love how you've layered so much together smile

Great sounding bass!

has a lovely early 80´s new wave feel to the strong rhythm and especially the bass driving the whole thing. Sort of happy version of Joy Division smile Great stuff, again...

Love the bass sound especially with the drums in the middle section.  Def feeling the new wave vibes with the chorus.

That is my exact bass!  In a previous band, the guitarist called it my pizza slide because the body was so wide.

Of all my gear that can be sold or thrown away, you would have to pry my Ripper and my Moog Liberation from my cold dead hands cause I'll never part with them smile

The Good, the Bad, and the BAD-ASS! Noooiice!

smile Lovely!!!

Yeah, me too.  Thought there might be something to all this repetitive stuff, but I may just be repeating myself (sorry, dad jokes.  Hard to switch gears from talking to my 10 year old and speaking to adults)

Absolutely got the Big Country vibe.  Not by design but I thought the same thing when I was mixing. Once again, you're in my head man!

Thanks for checking it out.  Part of the repetition is I'm always hopeful I will have time for vocals and plan on coming back and finishing the song. Hopefully smile

Thanks! I feel the intro is a bit bland but it picks up a bit.  Bass is like the secret sauce that makes everything better! That FB Like button does not always show up on first load.  I have been noticing a lot more of them on WB pages if I reload.

I think I'm figuring out some better methods for layering more instruments (as in orchestral arrangements) without cancelation.  I'm pushing it a bit more this year.  Thanks for noticing!

Amazing title ... and bass! Love the idea of starting with a title and making a song to fit. Nice work. Very optimistic good times here. Showdown at the old bass coral, where we all toast a pint and dance a bit!

bit of an LCD soundsystem vibe, nice
