That is not my dog

By NWSPR on December 4, 2022 8:17 pm

This is my longest track of the year just under 7 minutes, and is recorded live to stereo track in one pass using semi-modulars with live mixing. Very little in the way of editing and no over dubs except the addition of the samples.

The track is made up of a single sequence line using seven oscillators, two noise generators, Roland TR-626 drum machine and no actual keyboard playing (Technically I touched two keys in 7 minutes).  Most of the live performance is on the Soundcraft EPM8 mixer (on the right in the picure below) with various knobs and rocker switches on the Moog Grandmother, Behringer Model D and Pro 1 along with 3 pattern changes on the TR-626.

Not much post production. I truncated the beginning and end and added the samples from the Pink Panther.

My set up is really messy but having everything at arms length and plugged in makes a huge difference.  I had other parts in mind for overdubs but decided to stick to leaving this as a two track live jam.  If I was faster moving with tweaks on the mixer and synths, the song would be half as long and much tighter.  More practice I suppose.  Thanks for listening... sorry it is so repetitive.

Sounds just great! Do we hear the DFAM in there too, that's my favorite. Funny idea for the sample

That kick drum does cut! even when super busy it is right there... Very juicy patches.

This would make for a great dance party, but I also think it would be a nice accompaniment for driving or jogging.  The repetition is good for getting in the zone, but there's also a sense of constant motion and I can imagine the landscape just speeding by.

whose dog is it?

Suhweet setup!  The main synth line is super catchy and makes for some good tweaking to just get your groove on.  Those extra thick/squelchy lines are extra appreciated too!  The repetition of (which is a good thing) kind of reminds me of Depeche Mode's Never Let Me Down Again Aggro mix a bit in the snare/synth tonal goodness smile

(i bet it really was his dog, he just didn't want to admit it lest he pay the medical bills for the bite)
I love the aggressive tone on the synths here, still with good warmth too, and the build up of energy is so subtle but holds such huge drive throughout. Definitely a dancefloor-stomper! heart

You're getting really cool sounds from that setup. I especially enjoy the gritty bass sound, it has a lot of character and bite. The acid lines are a really nice touch, and great choice of samples as well!

Ha - Yeah there is a DFAM back there fattening the kick!  I am not using the other Mothers (too impatient) but the Grandmother is driving the main bass and has the sync filter effect.

Thanks! Kept the kick real dry with a crispy high end tap from the Soundcraft board eq.

We may never know.

I love my set up but not the 20 lbs of cables all knotted up under my feet.  My composing involves a lot of profanity and tripping over stuff smile

Thanks! The Moogs have growl and do bite in a good way.

It's a fun set up. Especially for live jams with a few friends and a bottle of scotch.

Well it's someones dog. Or is it wild. Yes it is, and it's going on a trip through the city, creating havoc and this song is its motivation and soundtrack.
This is awesome, great sounds, love that bass and lead synths.
