Open Your Heart (Sound of the Crowd)

By NWSPR on April 17, 2016 11:52 pm

Very excited about this track.  It's an instrumental cover of the Human League's song "Open Your Heart" from their 1981 album "DARE".  I created a drum break inspired by another track off the same album "The Sound of the Crowd".

For my recreation, I used a minimalist approach with only the Arturia Microbrute and a vintage Roland TR-626.  All tracks were monophonic, manually played and effected in the mix.  The snare sound is brought out with a rich, plate reverb with small room cranked and gated.

The DARE album is very influential to me, in it's production techniques and pure synth sounds. One of  the first pop records recorded completely on synthesizers that was a success in that it charted in the US, UK and around the world.

Still finishing up this version but getting close!

Very cool sound. How many tracks did you use? I'm guessing that the "pad" sound was layered with the Microbrute with multiple playthroughs? I'm just starting to rediscover my hardware synths, so hearing stuff like this makes me happy.

Roland TR-626 sounds super solid.  Great showcase of the MicroBrute! big_smile  Great version and 100% pure.

Oakey approves!
