Independence Day

By NWSPR on July 10, 2022 9:26 pm

Finally feeling better after several weeks of covid and wanted to vent some dystopian power pop/punk ironically named Independence Day - a swipe at the totalitarian rollback of Roe V Wade.  Hard to believe pundits on the news debating if women will have the ability to cross state lines to seek medical care. And if some forms of contraception will be made illegal.  Would be a great movie but I think I've seen it before... just not on the news.

On a more positive note for me, this track features the return of my Moog Liberation synth that had been away for several years at a repair shop during the Covid lockdown.  The fine folks at Main Drag Music held on to my keyboard and finished the refurb - delayed by parts supply chain issues. Happy to have this beasty machine back.

It's responsible for all the distorted synth lines including rhythm and leads that would normally be played on guitar. There are 8 tracks of the Liberation mixed into one hefty synth wall. Other software synths were used for bass and melodies. Vocals are now cough free.  I had fun recording all parts of this and won't complain... grading on the NWSPR curve, I think it was a decent effort smile

Hoping to get more listening in this week.  See you in the comments!

U S A.    U S A.

I think you captured some ironic patriotism with the power pop vibe too!  Great to hear you and your synth are feeling better.  Always a nice feeling getting an old synth back to life.

Great energy in this pop punk track! The moog liberation synth lines are delicious! Head bopping my way into Monday!

Everything fits perfect in this song. Especially, I like your singing performance. the guitar and synths are superfun. the energy in the track is full power and right in my face. beautiful 80ies revival.

coool, it makes me think a bit of some of Dragon Sounds tracks from Miami Connection

Always nice to get a valuable piece of equipment back.  You put it to good use here for sure.  A fun sound with upbeat energy and a good way to stick it to the powers that be.

well at least the Moog is LIBERATED - it sounds great!

Love the 80's vibes on this one. This is a solid song. I really like the vocals processing.

i too am getting back into listening mode and reacquainting with the community! it's about interdependence if you ask me. gonna get thru this together.

but yessss - the licks had me thinking of this 'le tigre' track i believe

and the energy was great and seems to suggest you will not be having long-covid. glad you (and the synth) are better!

Oh hail yais!  These are the synth lines I wanted to be playing more than sample mashing back in college!  I thought I was familiar with most of the Moog models but totally didn't know about this suhweet keytar.  Excellent energy and pace.  Those lead lines with the pulsing bass sound awesome.  Great to hear your vocals again too.  They sit perfectly in that wall o'synth.

A pow pow pop pop to head that got me up. I'm awake again on this hot Friday. Yes, this is good fun. Those synths, anthemic huge. This is the song I needed on my recent road trip around the mid west. Vox are great. As Tone Matrix said, Hail Yes!

You're exercising great freedom with that liberation, it's awesome~
