In the Hall of the Rain King

By NWSPR on September 30, 2018 10:30 pm

Hey everyone, sorry to be out of touch. I will catch up this week as things get back to normal. I moved my office, while trying to focus on a product launch and several websites that went up. And got sick from all the stress. But this weekend I was up in the mountains of the Catskills region coughing up a lung and snotting all over nature and anything in my path.  I managed to do a field recording of a stream that was practically overflowing from all the rain this week and used that in the track.

This week, I do a first for me. First track ever produced using only software instruments in Logic on my laptop and misusing an Arturia BeatStep to hand play everything.  It was a good way to go because I didn't have to set up any gear and pecking out a tune on the BeatStep was a fun change of pace.

So other than the field recording of the stream (and me singing to the stream) it's all VST.

Hope you enjoy and are all doing well.  Looking forward to catching up on everyone's compos this week!

You've managed to capture a little bit of that rustic country feel and it mixes well with the synth sounds.  Hope you feel better soon!

Excellent blend of sources: gesundheit!

Oh dang when it hits full swing it's really great!

Get well soon.

I like this song, it's rather imposing.

Great compo! Mix is perfect and everything has its place to shine. Making good guitars in software is something that completely eludes me, you manage to make them sing, it's impressive! Also nice little psychedelic touch at the beginning!

I'm back up in the Catskills again armed with a chainsaw clearing some fallen trees. Back to 100% with cold in the rear view but totally fucked my back moving the trees... always something to complain about! Thanks for the kind words.

Thanks! Done with it. Luckily it was a glancing blow that passed in a week. Hope all's well with work.

Yep, thanks for recognizing that psychedelic feel in the beginning. That was the feeling I was trying to convey. A sense of mystery before slipping into a more traditional backing string section and then devolving into some hippy nature stuff towards the end.

Mysterious and magical. Love those arps and leads. Rain king got it going on. Second time I've heard rain on a WB song today ... rainy season is upon us.

The VSTs sound good. Thought the guitar was real! Cool song, hope all is well
