Black Ties

By NWSPR on February 18, 2018 6:58 pm

This week, live playing with Curtis Smith on drums and me on bass (that is the band format for NWSPR).  I then overdubbed guitars, organ and vocals.  Was going for more of a straight forward rock with no synths, arps or sequencing.  Loving the freedom I am getting from the Tascam 8x16 USB interface which allows me to slather lots self serving indulgence into Logic.

The song title refers to black tie events and their ilk.  Something I learned about after moving to and working in New York City, and avoid along with anything in the gala, ball or other such shit.

Great performance. It sounds like there is some distortion/digital something going on - it reminds me of a higher bit rate recording being played through a lower bitrate interface.

The slight distortion just adds an extra level of energy. Again, well done!

^Yeah, I like the grittiness

really great straightforward punk kinda vibes, love that chugging forward momentum. organ really adds that extra spice!

This new direction is neat, though I do kind of miss the robots.

wow that was huge -ooops

Yeah, I was fairly embarrassed after posting the track and discovering the distortion but it was too late.  It's caused by two tracks that the automation brought up in the second half of the song. A low guitar and another bass played in low register.  It pushes all the low end over the top. I only checked the first part of the song after saving to MP3 before posting.  I was in a rush... lesson learned though.  Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah technical issue aside, this is a great track!  Ever listen to the band Pain?  Reminds me of them (which is a huge compliment from me)

Distortion aside, I think it has the proper attitude ...
