Bats

By NWSPR on March 13, 2022 1:29 pm

Last weekend I saw The Batman.  Last night I watched bats flying out from under the Congress bridge in Austin, TX at sunset. The first was meh, the latter very cool but did not come with popcorn. This week I'm traveling for work and currently in a hotel (Free Breakfast and Shitty WiFi was the working title of this track), so I recorded a mess of guitar and bass tracks in between panic attacks before leaving town and then finished this last night from the hotel room using the Arturia Hatestep Pro (trademark Orange Drink, patent pending).  I mixed  on my Macbook using knock off earbuds so who knows what this sounds like on something beyond $15 buds.  I tried to master it and it got much worse so this is a rough mix.

Back to more important stuff.  Anyone see The Batman? I didn't really need another batman movie but my son did.  A few friends loved it but I thought it was so so.  Could have been shorter and I didn't feel it was up to the same calibre of Joker or some of the Chris Nolan films like Dark Night.  Anyway, I may be in the minority here.  Please discuss amongst yourselves and in the comments.

Happy Week Ten!

Haven't seen The Batman yet, but have some friends who swear it's the greatest Batman movie ever made.  I have seen the Congress bridge bats in Austin and I can attest they are worth checking out.  This track doesn't sound half-bad to me.  Maybe has a bit of a lo-fi feel, but there's nothing wrong with that. I'm digging that distorted/tremolo guitar part in particular.

I am planning to go watch the Batman. There have been so many great movies around him (Tim Burton's, Nolan's and Phoenix' Joker) and also some horrendous ones (won't name them but we all know who they are).

This is a pretty relaxed track. Like driving in the evening with windows open, taking the night in, relaxed.

I really like this track. It has such a dreamy flow. The chorus effect and the mix gives it a nice "joy division" feeling. Producing such a beautiful song somewhere on the road, outside the familiar studio proves your enthusiasm for WB. I am sorry, but I can not join into the batman discussion.

It sounds fine and the progression fills it up very well.

As usual, you're dead on! I think it has a Joy Division vibe that came through early on and I went with it.  Thanks!

This song definitely is some back-lit bats coming out of a cave in slow motion, into a night of fog.  Oh man this reminds me we have a wooden bat house that we've never set up in the backyard

Can't wait to see The Batman but waiting until after my show - so probably the last week of this month.

Bracing myself for Nirvana in a movie, but optimistic.

LOL "Hatestep Pro" thank you for the credits on that one

How do you have a son old enough to go to movies when you're only 24 years old?  smile

Love the dark feeling of this with the pulsing synth and the cure-esque sounding guitars.  Maybe its the coffee and lack of sleep but this felt like it could easily fit in the original Crow movie.  Totally can't tell you mixed with $15 earbuds either smile  Nice work!

Thanks! Some of the guitar parts with tremolo are high register on the bass because I'm generally too lazy to unplug and make the switch to guitar.  The bats were cool. Put a big smile on my face.

I'm guessing Val Kilmer's Batman with nipples was nobody's favorite.  Phoenix as Joker is hard to beat.  Hope you had a chance to make it out.

I thought it was more of a mess when I nervously posted it Sunday evening.  Now I'm at peace with it and onto making new mistakes.

Thanks! That's a Fat Bat... these Texas bats were nimble flying mouse rockets.

Yeah, I forgot about the use of Nirvana in the soundtrack.  I found it both cringy and effective. But, rubbed me the wrong way.  Like using a John Lennon track to sell Botox or something of that nature.  Is nothing sacred with these kids?  And thanks for the 24 year old comment but I regularly wear hoodies older than that.

Thanks!  I got home and gave it a listen and it's not half bad at all. Maybe I stick with the earbuds since I'm halfway deaf anyways smile I like that Crow comment... sweet!

Nice feel to the track and the natural sound of the guitars is welcoming.

I think the bats would like this. I enjoyed it. Calm and subtle, good melody. The earbuds seemed to work ok eh? I took my son to The Batman too. A bit meh, some good aspects. I liked the detective story aspects, liked that we didn't get another origin story, had decent level grit, kind of almost felt believable and human.

Really into guitar sound on this one: such a stone cold groove. Remarkable you did that while traveling (this sounds like an opposite of a panic attack).
