2 Minutes to Spare

By NWSPR on May 17, 2020 11:58 pm

Holy shit. Posted with two minutes to spare and the song is exactly two minutes long and spent about 2 hours putting it together.  It's not rocket science, or exactly Mozart for that matter, but it's got a pulse and will keep me in the game.  Was shooting for a Blur meets Love & Rockets sound.  First time in weeks I didn't have equipment issues which was an amazing and delightful experience.

I need to catch up on listening to everyones tracks this week.  No excuses other than the week just flew by.  Hope everyone is well!

Your robot rock has me experimenting with guitar sounds. I like how the bass is clean, but your instruments play off of it to make the collective bass/mid-bass have a sound similar to a saw wave.

Love the guitar and bass tones in this track. Feels like one you could come back to some day and build out with vocals if you felt like it. smile

Oh shit yeah dude.  The opening/lead riff is so wild!  Such a simple line but the porto makes it sound so cool.  So much energy packed into this tune man, loving it.

Those two minutes rocked. smile . Catchy, groovy, this is a lot of stuff done for 2hrs. Love the guitar-bass work on that.

Never underestimate sheer panic as a motivator.  I picked up my bass and not wanting to do the same sound I always do, I tried thumping and popping rather than pick playing.  I can barely do it so that was the very basic three chord theme that comes out with the wah wah filter in the middle.  with those 8 bars, everything else had to be built to conform to it or I had nothing!  Thanks for checking it out!

The intro is mega!!!! So many cool sounds and a ZZ-Top rocking mainpart. Good stuff.

My jaw literally dropped as soon as this track started big_smile

Can you do a 10 minutes to spare version?

This got some of that fonky chonk to it. Very cool use of the WAH effect on the bass.

God I love that bassline! Friggin great. This is sweet man.

Mozart's got nothin' on you! This is great, I can almost hear Damon Albarn singing over top of this one.

omg that bass though

2 minutes to spare?  Wow, you like living dangerously.  But the good news is this track is really, really great.  I think one of my faves of the year from you so far.  Awesome energy, cool sounds, and a great chord progression.  I agree some vocals would really take this over the top.

Same I adore that bass. Love the chord movement on this, it really moves in an unexpected but satisfying way. Also deadline surfin is the true soul of weeklybeats. Respect heart

Dayum son, the guitar in this is sick af!

That sick wah bass is funky as hell. And i love the guitar layers. Well done, sir!

Yas! Slinky future lounge swanky groover, I like! Nice job getting it in. Short songs are good.

That bassline is super groovy!  Def hearing that Blur influence.  It also reminded me a lil bit of Elastica's Connection.  Had to listen to it twice to soak in that bassline and portoslide smile

It's also got a kickass progression.

filthy bass at 1:10, nice

Happy to hear if this inspires experimenting with guitar sounds in different ways! I like trying to blend the buzzy guitars with symphonic sting sounds which definitely gets that saw wave sound but I struggle to mix it well.  Definitely a challenge.

Thanks! I appreciate the encouragement.  Definitely want to come back and finish this one up.

One of my go to tricks is to find the cheesiest rave sounds in the vst library, that I would never want, and jam them in out of context.  I got those sounds out of a electro rave risers sound pack.

Love that ZZ Top, and I'm a one trick pony smile Hey, that's a good song title... week 22 possibly.  Thanks for checking it out.

Cool!  That's what I was going for.  Think I might need to trash out the drums in the intro.  Maybe too clean.  Thanks for checking it out.  I could probably do a 10 minute version but I don't want WB folks throwing rocks at me to turn that noise off already smile. Maybe a remix in the future.

Bing on the fonky chonk ronk!! my new genre smile I used the wah on the bass a few weeks ago for the first time and I think I'm liking it.  Thanks for checking it out!

Thanks! As Sigmund Freud said,  "It's all about the bass"

Damn, thanks! You got his number? (Damon, not Mozart) smile

The strings on that bass are older than some of the musicians on WB but it gets the job done! Thanks for listening!

Can't go wrong with classic 3 chord rock and a bunch of distortion.  Would love to revisit with vocals in the future if I can figure something out.  Thanks for listening!

LOL! Deadline surfin is where the magic happens... thanks!

Thank you! I don't have a big range in my guitar playing but find good bass makes the guitar work easier and I have a better command of the bass for these kinds of tracks. Thanks for checking it out!

Yeah, happy accident that really anchors the song.  Thanks!

That's right. Get in there and get the job done. I think I'll name my imaginary drummer Swanky Groover. Thanks!

I feel like we must have similar musical background.  You definitely pick up on things I may not have, but Elastica is an old fav and influencer.  Thanks!

Thanks. got to stick to the bassics* like pork and beans and three chord rock progressions. *not a typo.
