Soudain, rien (shitty bass cover)

By Nueli on May 30, 2026 7:27 pm

HUBRIS was in PROMO this week. Or maybe it's the heat wave? It's Saturday, after an exhausting week and at the start of a busy weekend I take my bass and try to cover my own song from last week. After all if we don't defy the gods once or twice who are we?

So it's Saturday morning. Black skirt on and fan blowing on my back to help with the heat. My bass is jurry-rigged to the M8 via my amp (using the headphone jack) to record the two melodic lines and the percussion. then it's editing time, selection, normalization of each note, effects, a bit of mixing. I guess what I lack in chops I made up for in courage?

Ideally I would like to make at least another song using my bass this year. I like the instrument. I just fail repeatedly to start a consistent practice schedule so it sits in the corner of the living room, reanimated for a few weeks each year as if I were a necromancer.

Anyway. I hope you have an excellent week. Yes you the reader reading my exhausted brain vomiting words on the keyboard. People here continue to amaze me, each week there are new musical treasures to discover. So hydrate, call your loved ones and make music!

Your description of the creative process and just the writeup is good. This is a cool track, I like the smoother lines and the dampness compared to last week. Maybe like a slow warm late spring afternoon.

Pretty cool, you need more bass tracks!

Thank you! Once I awoke from my crazy haze this morning I realized that the process was still quite enjoyable. I should at least try to add a bit of bass to some of my future tracks. That way I can combine instrument practice and WB marathon?
