Fussy Trioxide

2000: Found two dead cheap and broken C64s in a weird, dirty second hand shop. They were abandoned in cardboard box on the sidewalk, and I figured I had to rescue them.
2009: Ordered a MSSIAH cartridge with plans to make some SID acid on the 64s.
2026: Actually started repairing the computers. Desoldered a bunch of chips, put in sockets, fucked around, learned stuff, bought replacement chips, and had RESULTS.

The first machine to be revived was a C64C with a 6581 SID. Sounds fun (and great for most applications), but not very good for the MSSIAH Bassline acid.

The next one was a C64G with an 8580 SID. And it sounds absolutely excellent as a TB-303 cousin!

Here's a quick little squelch jam along with an 808. Spring reverb/Mackie/Analog Heat dirt on top. Just some whatever patterns and traditional drums, hey ho let's go to town.

I really like how closely the MSSIAH implemented the pattern programming of the TB-303. You can bash them out quickly, don't even need to have a monitor connected when you memorize a few button presses.

Recorded live to stereo. Edits for coolness. VULF compressor for chunk. MIDI knobs for synth tweakage.

Good times, thanks for checking in. Peace!

It is incredibly cool that you resurrected a broken C64 to make this. I especially love SID acid bass and you found a rare gem in that 8580 SID. So nice!
