Even Baddies Get The Blues

By Ninefingers on February 25, 2024 7:13 am

One of my friends was having a conversation with me and said that their life was going pretty fantastically well and yet for some reason they were really feeling down and we talked about that a bit. And then a few minutes later FB tried to sell me a sweater with an ad that said "Even Baddies Get The Saddies" and if I wasn't horrifically broke and unemployed I would have bought it immediately cause the algorithms know exactly what I want in my closet. Instead I took a screen shot and sent it to my friend. But the phrase was really sticking with me. I felt like it was begging to be sung in a low country drawl. My natural voice being quit low myself, I felt like I was the one for the job so why not try it for WB. This was my first time attempting to play bass and while it's not great I assumed it would be worse so I'm not mad at it. The harmonica I did think would be easier to solo on but it was quite difficult for me and I'm not pleased with it. But I'd already left space for a solo so I just left it in as I'm busy tomorrow and don't have time to try to figure out something else. The drummer is just GarageBand Four on the Floor template.

Well all my bestest friends are baddies
And they move through life just kicking ass
But life is long and filled with contrasts
And nearly never enough naps
So sometimes they get bit by sudden sadness
A cloudy day filled with malaise
And though they’re strong they need some kindness
Cause even baddies have bad days

Even baddies get the saddies
Even Bob Ross got the blues
Even Beyonce has her off days
Though she’s the baddest in the world
So if you’re ever feeling low down
Just call my name and I’ll be there
To lend my ear and lift you up too
Cause even baddies get the blues

I knew I was going to love this from the moment I saw the title lol. This put a huge smile on my face! Well done, I bet it would be a great crowd-pleaser in a live setting

I like how the song just keeps getting better and better as it rolls along, tho I wasn't convinced by the key change, I loved the extra low vocal line. And I also happen to love the harmonica solo. Yay, applause!

You should find out who sells that sweater and send them this track for their ads. Would make for an awesome video ad

Glad you were feeling it! I honestly would like to put a giant country band together to perform it.

Regarding the key change, do you think it would be better if there was a better transition to it, or if it was in a different key, or if it also came with a larger band and more voices, or do you think it would be better if it stayed in the same key but just got bigger and bigger throughout the song in terms of instruments and voices?

I don't actually understand key changes, I just knew I wanted to try suddenly singing it higher in an attempt to make it sound like it was moving and getting bigger even though I couldn't figure out other instruments I could add on my own.

What I've learned is that it's apparently a super common quote to put on shirts. So probably if I ever put this song together for real and release it I'll make my own sweater!

A better transition than announcing, "how 'bout a key change?" no way, impossible smile
I think I understand where you were going now. Perhaps in general, the trick of the upward key change sounds contrived to our jaded modern ears. But if you lean into it (such as announcing, "how 'bout a key change?") it becomes fun. I would agree that adding some over-the-top element after the change would probably make it work better. I imagine a children's choir coming in on that last chorus, lol! but any sort of gang vocals would work I think, especially if there were some treble voices. You can count me in wink

"That's true!" loved that man. very catchy lines

Beyonce, off days. In the running for best rhyme of WB 2024.
