The Mystery Under Oxford

By NickLong on March 7, 2026 9:24 pm

I was trying out some fun arpeggios in Pianoteq 9 Steinway B model which I think is super impressive.

Other than the Piano it's pretty simple, just a break chopped with Amigo and a bass from sublab.

One bit of musical interest is a 7/8 section for a bit of spookiness.

The video concept and title is from my wife who saw the image of a mysterious detective story set in Oxford when listening to the track.

such a delightful sense of intrigue!

What a cool combination! Loving that bass.

Good stuff! Lovely piano sound.

HellyeAH! Deep TONICS!

Yeah! This is what I needed to get me going this week!

Fully hyped and ready to go out, lets finally solve the mystery!

Awesome arrangement and chord progression. Especially that final downward line is super cool. Wasn't expecting the heavy electronic beat from where the song started, but it totally works with the idea of the detective finally putting together all the puzzle pieces together. Awesome track!

That bass is nice and thick, great breakbeats to go with the propulsive piano, really nice visuals to accompany the track and title, planning a visit to Oxford this summer, I’ll see if I can crack the case.

Very cool, love the part with the descending/ascending chords

Movie score material, especially for a nice montage.

It's Sublab. It's a plugin that does one thing and does it really well.

Thanks it's Pianoteq Steinway B. I'm blown away by how good that plugin sounds.

Thanks much appreciated. I was really just mucking around trying Pianoteq out and thought "Hmm... would it be insane if I put a breakbeat on this"

I'm glad you like the visuals. some people really hate AI, but I take the approach of getting my family to listen to the tracks with eyes closed and then say what it makes them think of. I then put that into Veo as a prompt. So I figure that has some value.

Yeah I quite like that bit. I've no idea what the chords actually are as I was just mucking about with voice leading, but there is some kind of super crunchy diminished in the middle that I love.

Yes!

Putting the clues together.

Really cool stuff again!!

What do you use to make your AI videos on Youtube?

The videos are generated with Veo, but then they are made with Vizzy.

It's really cool stuff!! I like your style and how it matches the music.👌

I either have an idea of what the visual I want for the track or after I finish I get my family to listen with eyes closed and suggest what mental images they see.

That's such a great idea! It really adds to my conceptual enjoyment of the piece!

The video for this one and the title was from my wife saying she imagined a detective who looked like Amelie wearing a red coat cycling through Oxford. I put that into Veo and there you go.
