Shíyī 十 Prime

For this weeks weekly beats I tried to do the same trick as last week and make a track using an odd time signature while making it sound natural and fun.

Turns out 11/8 is much harder to do that with than with 5/4
I had quite limited time so this is a very simple sketch.

Synplant did an update this week so I thought I'd make it entirely with 3 instances of Synplant and one of Microtonic all by the amazing Sonic Charge.

For those not familiar Synplant is a really crazy synth that generates patches by growing them as plants using genetic algorithms. So I generated a few patches and used what I've got. I still don't really understand it, but it's really cool and I need to spend more time with it.

The name is the Japanese word for 11 with the symbol and prime for 11 being a prime number.

It's so playful and bright!

I know its random but prime thought in my head was "oh wow that bass is perfect!" I am a little fixated lol. This is a really fun pretty track and Synplant is doing delightful things here, really wonderful. And the space/atmosphere is just gorgeous and open, it really feels like an immersive world. Awesome track!

The drums sound great and loving the twinkling synth melody over that sweet bassline.  Love how the drum groove sounds midway thru as it bounces with the bass. 11/8 sounds gewd! \m/

You pretty much can't get a bad sound out of Microtonic.

I've used it on loads of composition challenges and I almost feel embarrassed because people are always like "OMG you are so good with drum programming" and I literally just got Microtonic and tweaked a couple of knobs big_smile

Thanks man, that means a lot from a maestro such as yourself.

If you don't know Synplant check it out, it really is quite magical and strange.

such a fun track, immediately hit play again once it ended. mix sounds great to my ears. and yeah, that bass is very fun

This is super nostalgic for me , I'm getting Mario Kart rainbow road flashbacks! Also reminds me of studying sessions while blasting some early aphex twin.  You did really good job with the off kilter time signature!

I think I've said this about other songs of yours, but there's something lightly mischievous about this one. The twinkles, shaker, and open hats set a cute mood, dancing on snowflakes. But then the bass bounces in, not daintily but with swagger, like, "Hey, don't forget this is dance music!" The wood block break is unexpected and cool. The drums are ofc tightly linked, but my favorite is the off-beat hat pattern

Catchy melodies and fun and interesting rhythms, I like it! smile

I love the idea of trying to create something with odd time signatures! That being said, I love how playful this is. Fun tune!

I will absolutely take mischevious big_smile

That's kind of my vibe. Music isn't some kind of dark window into my soul is my happy place where I go to have fun.

I love weird time sigs as they make you do something unexpected.

Excellent stuff! Excellent work of making something catchy and flowing with a tricky time signature!

Intriguing. I recently useed Rand/Push for finding inspiring patches when I had no actual idea in mind. Synplant seems to be a whole other level.
