Megelegie

By NickLong on May 24, 2026 11:23 am

Unfortunately I was very sick all week (still bad 7 days later) and couldn't work on anything elaborate this week so I turned to the ever reliable Polyend Tracker Mini and blasted out a simple jam in an hour.

The samples come from a combination of a Mega FM sample pack made by Bardial:  https://www.youtube.com/@Bardial-o4y

and a recording of "Elegie Song of Mourning" from 1912

Why this weird mashup, who knows I just needed stuff without copyright. It seems to go together surprisingly ok.

Everything fully recorded and mixed on the Polyend Tracker Mini, with just a bit of limiting in Logic afterwards. It's really an impressive box for knocking out a track quickly.

Snappy beat and nice find on that vocal sample.

Get well soon. That riff is dope and the vocals are almost psy-trance-ish. Like it.

Loved the vibe and especially the vox! Hope you feel better soon

Love the snappy groove of the drums with that sweet bass line.  I hope you're feeling mucho better soon!

Agree with others, this is a killer groove! Punches right, and that lower hat fill does a lot to humanize the beat. Really like the mechanical synth that shadows the bassline. The piano hook is nicely bent into a funk rhythm. But the vox is the most impressive flip. Would not have placed that as an opera vocal had you not linked the source.

(We both know the Tracker Mini v M8 debates on Elektronauts can get weirdly heated. Although I've never used a Mini, you're the first person I think of when people try to talk down about it. It's the musician, not the gear)

Thanks, I do love a Mega Drive bassline.

Thanks, I appreciate that.

Having heard some of the frankly amazing things people do with an M8 on here I'd love to try one out (although my eyesight is terrible so not sure how that would work out).

What I can say is that the Polyend Tracker is the device that got me regularly creating tracks and if I've got 2 hours and I want to know I'm going to come out with something fun and interesting it's always the box I'd turn to even over Bitwig. It makes me sad that they seem to be the company everyone loves to hate because I've found the Tracker to be rock solid and really well supported with great software updates.

Delightful, great groove, really fun use of the samples, refreshing! I am also jazzed to hear something from the tracker mini cuz I don't see it used often and dang if I am addicted to trackers. This felt really spontaneous and lively heart

sorry you were feeling crappy, but this is a really nice result! really nice and light/ precise/ almost playful groove. glad to hear you are on the mend!

That opera sample is a great find, can mix that into all kinds of tracks.  I like the groove of those drums and such a nice punchy sound to that snare.

This grooves! Hope you feel better now heart

Hope you're doing better already!

Very cool beat, I have to say

Tight ass beat and lovely quirky bass line!

Such a bop. That main driving riff sounds perfect - its timbre and ADSR profile is locked in so excellently. The vocal ditty is a great accent to the piece too.
