Double Daseot

Nice simple track for this weeks Weekly beats

Made in Bitwig using built in drum kits
All synths are Uhe Repro 5 other than the bass which is Sublab.

The concept is from a video from 8 bit music theory to use a rhythm which uses a 5/4 clave rhythm (Think Mission Impossible) combined with the same Rhythm running at double the tempo (so 5/8) to create a more propulsive natural sounding rhythm.

Daseot is Korean for 5 which I had to learn with my son for his TKD belts.

Super simple 2 chord and same rhythm and tempo all the way through.

Energetic and awesome. Love how you’re working with essentially two time signatures and how they interlock. Amazing and inspiring!

really like the different drums. it's fun!

Oooh loving that 5/4 groove that gets the feet moving.  Sweet synth arp goodness that is so hypnotic! Well done!

Cool track! And great rhythms, interesting to hear about the music theory at work here.

If having one odd rhythm is said to boost your creativity, is using two boosting it twice as much? Or does it get quadrupled? Anyways, you made it work out very well.

This has a modern sound but also this wonderful, decisively 1960s fever-dream feel to it, particularly with the percussion and I imagine a lot of that comes down the time signature as well (so many people experimenting with time signatures this week!) it sounds really great - it maintains a groove that keeps you in that fantastic space between anticipation and resolution, but never trips you  up, keeps you moving, and thats challenging! Really great track very fun heart

i really like this, Nick. great flow heart

Really enjoy that flowing bassline, a really great 5/4 beat you've got here! It feels so rolling and danceable! Also love that stereo percussion. Great stuff!

Love what you’ve done with a 5/4, you’ve inspired me to have a play with it myself. Tidy tune to boot, a great listen.

Non-4/4 or 3/4 rhythms to the ear often feel tacked on or broken (which can be fun), but this is as natural even the most contemporary music. Great work.

Glad you found it inspired you.

8 Bit Music theory is really good at explaining things like time signatures. This one was inspired by his video about mario kart.

Sleek and cool. The bassline has a chic stride I associate with broken beat. Cuban polyrhythms are tasty, and the cowbell and timbales(?) are well mixed! There's a "fake" 4/4 in there with the snare placement, but it doesn't feel like cheating, and I love the extra triplet rhythm of the echoes on the lead. I've tried to make 5/4 before, and it's always a struggle to make it *not* sound like Mission Impossible, so kudos for breaking free and coming with something that feels so effortless

Fun and interesting percs throughout! Love that bass sound as well cool

Wow, wasn't expecting this drums at 30ish seconds but they fit super well sounds like an alien tribal theme. Overall a super chilled listen cool

Love the idea with the two different time signatures and it really does sound great - which is also thanks to the drums. Lovely track

Thanks chap, lovely comments. It does have a kind of 60's early sequencing vibe.

Thanks for the great comments. That fake 4/4 vibe is the trick for having the 5/4 and 10/8 layered becaus the bar gets broken in half with gives a psudo 4 feel.
