Grind

By NeonRebar on January 9, 2026 8:59 pm

Just some more piano with noises noise partly inspired by a former life in the grind of physical labor.
Heres a little story:

I used to work at UPS as an unloader. I unloaded 40ft trailers packed tight with up to 70lb packages.
When a semi-trailer sits in the summer sun all day it gets up to 120 degrees in there. They used to issue
salt tablets to us to help keep us from passing out due to loss of electolytes from sweating our brains out.

Brutal, physical work. I 'upgraded' myself to sorter after my first summer. Packages mobbed onto conveyor belts
as fast as you can grab them and sort them into one of 8 different colored belts that led to other parts of the building. Huge, endless conveyer belts, steel housings, the roar of machinery and a bunch of dudes slaving away pretty much hating life and not talking much.
Makes me think of some kind of Dante hell fantasy.
I spent 7 long, very long years working there. It hurt alot but it put me through school so theres that I guess.

Anyway, way back then on a Tuesday as I was pulling into the parking lot for my shift I thought to my self "I will remember
this moment and how trapped I feel in this endless, hopeless and painful job but someday Ill get out. Someday Ill get out" .

I sort of froze that moment of my life to think about it later on.
Pulling my beater Chevy in, I can still see the lot gates, smell the wretched funk of industrial Franklin Park Illinois,
the constant noise of jets in and out of nearby Ohare...

So, here I am years later playing piano, tweaking Reaper and writing music free as a fkn bird baby. And its Tuesday.
If I could wormhole back in time and play this for myself I wonder what that guy would think.

Let’s goooo! I love the piano.

The environment you created in this song is next level.

This song is so cool.

Very cool. This is happy, but it's seen some stuff for sure. Love that euphoric moment with the strings at 2:00.

Thanks for the listen!

Awesome life story. Those hard moments-years forge us for the rest of our life.

There is something industrial that can makes me feel on a chain doing hard work.

I really liked both the reading and listening to the track!

Rock on!

Your text and the harmony+melody work so well together and the music creates a narrative of hope during the breakout at 2:00
Exceptional!

Nice crunchy drums, nice reverberated toms and lovely piano playing. Sweet mix too, very in your face.

Your story hits hard. Glad to hear you're in a better place now. Luckily I haven't spent as long in those kind of conditions, but I for sure did some time in the transport industry. The feeling of being trapped in there and needing to get out is something I can vividly remember too. Thanks for sharing!

Pretty, and painful
The past can do that
But now you have this beautiful song
- Ebrit

the intro gave me nin with the crisp drums and mechanical sfx woven through, surprised with where it went from there but you made it work really well
