orbital cruise (DARKLOVE)

First M8 track of the year, aimed for sorta-retro-dub-techno, landed on retro-deep house. There's just a few too many limitations on modulating the M8's delay to really hit dub-techno out of the box.

The title is absolutely a play on words. (btw, M8 tracks get their random-generated titles in all caps cuz they're fun and also makes it easier for me to track them down later lol)

Related to that - I'm now helping with the Red Means Recording monthly Discord challenges on the RMR discord, which is a fun monthly song-writing challenge based on a prompt, technique, genre, etc... Last month's challenge was all about granular synthesis, you can watch the stream here:

RMR Monthly Discord Challenge January 2026 - Granular Synthesis

Many of the challenges are theme-based, but we try to make them as educational as they are fun - last year the Chicago House challenge was one of my faves, it was a genre WAY out of my wheelhouse but I learned a lot and made some awesome tracks. Some of that definitely spilling into this week's song.

Which, is also related, because the discord theme for this month is "love" (with plenty of room for interpretation and cynicism if desired lol), and I decided - barring disaster - that I'd theme the next few weeks of tracks as "Love, Sex and Longing in the Void" - space music, and probably space-dub-techno-house nonsense too.

On the notes of barring disaster, it's been a bad week, and it's gonna be another bad week, but we will see how we get through it.

Got that nice breathy voice. Definately got the house beat and nice slap!

god, the low end is tuned so perfectly. sooo good, this was a great making dinner soundtrack!
will be thinking of you this week 🖤

oof love the sound of those spacey pads with the deep kick.  such a head nodder \m/ those sweet panned out dubby delays too yais! i hope your week gets better soon

This slaps. I love the vocal. It's perfect for a club anthem. The chord stabs heart. The bass is on turbo boost. I really have to learn to program synths like this. Nice work.

This turned out awesome. Great stuff.

Gahhhh, between the bass and the vocal samples…you pretty much nailed love, sex and longing. Late night at the club vibes. Awesome track!

... we persevere... (︶︹︺)...

The music helps.  I love the processing on this one, and all the little percs, and shakers and things... really keeps the track interesting, while allowing it to be hypnotic.

This is so atmospheric and well put together. Dub techno or deep house, I'd groove in the club to this heart

hope your week gets better! love the vocals and how atmospheric this is

That kick has got some chunk to it.

people are doing some special things with the M8.

Makes me want to clubbing

So smooth, love the driving kick, skittering percussion, dubby chord stabs and those vocals fit so well.  I always talk about your ambient tracks, but I could listen to this all night.

very sexy!

Tasty smooth dark love, feeling it for sure. Float on and persevere, the music carries us.

I "love" the "dark" atmosphere at play here. big_smile One groovy cruise through the galaxy, please!
Seriously, great work!

Five minutes went by pretty quickly with the hypnotic nature of the track. M8 in your arsenal works out great, too, despite the modulation limitations. So you got range!

Didn't know you were involved with Jeremy's Discord. I briefly met the guy at Superbooth, on two separate years, but no reason for him to even remember the very short conversations. I appreciate his videos, he's charismatic but also a talented musician. His opsix video is the best demo of that synth out there, his cover of Bo Burnham's "Hands Up" was so well done, and so aptly placed in time and space. Not just good music, but the video is fantastic. I still come back to it sometimes. And it turns out he's also great with the M8. His idea to just use synth preset preview samples as bona fide samples in your music is genius big_smile

I digress! I just wish I had more time to be part of even more challenges/projects/communities, but it seems to me there's always overlap in people between all those servers.

Anyway, good stuff. Let's see what you got this week.

y000 I'm downloading this for the radio for sure

really love the vocal sample, your voice?

hang tight friend, bad weeks have a tendency to disappear with time wink
