Y24W24! oh the symmetry. I don't know what i think about this one, but everything is progress towards goals. Next week i want to try to work with some dissonance. Does anyone know how to do that? A lot of the metal music i listen to has very successful dissonance and i want to give it a try but i need to learn how. Any pointers are helpful. I'm glad to be on this journey with you all!

Enjoy some sculptural art I found in the Atlanta airport.

_love_ the sci-fi bleep boops, love the break. It’s got that rad… jungle and early hardcore and friends vibe. Like the land early prodigy lives, which is the best land.

Slaps

Yes, there is a R2D2 element in here. the beat is totally infectious. Good job and good luck being dissonant next week.

Awesome. That bass lead is so thick. The space in your tracks never fails to amaze me.

What kind of dissonance are you interested in? Any metal tracks in particular?

I also don't know what to think about this one, but it's because I am distracted by a GIANT CORN PLANE

This track got me bouncing, it's got a really cool energy and I like that almost gabber-like bassline

As for dissonance, this is what I would say:
- stick to minor/minor sounding keys
- introduce accidents (i.e. notes that are not in the key)
- notes that are a semitone appart in a scale will usually sound dissonant
- detune is your friend, if you have two notes playing together and one of them is detuned, you get dissonance (as stated above) but with more control

I think if you play with these ideas you will come up with something you like!

XC3N is right, and to supplement that, you don't need to stick to a minor mode or minor sounding keys, the fastest way to create dissonance is through tritones (the minor 6th interval) and diminished chords (which has a tritone). In fact, playing in a major key and hitting them with one of those will add extra dissonance.

Y24W24? More like R2D2! It's a fun track, with the eerie vocal introducing some unease against the goofy spacy sounds. In the end an enjoyable result!

Thanks for the close listen and comments as always! yeah that corn plane is pretty wild haha

I really appreciate the notes on dissonance. It makes a lot of sense to me and is a good starting place. More options than i was expecting which makes me confident i can find something that works. I didn't get to it for week 26 but maybe next week...?

Ok this is really helpful, thank you. I will definitely be trying those tritones!

R2D2 has joined the chat! thanks for the listen and the comment!

I dig this. Feels frantic but fun at the same time!

The biggest thing (for me at least) is to fully lean into the dissonance, and find the beauty in it. Kinda sit with the discomfort and resist the urge to pretty it up. I love the sound of 2 notes pulling apart from each other and the way the sound waves start to pulse as that happens.
I look forward to hearing whatever you cook up!

So energizing, feels like a cyberpunk chase scene. I really like all the "pauses" and use of space to break things up. All of the chirpy beep-boops are awesome as well.
