The field recording this week comes from my apartment window in Brooklyn, capturing street noises and a call to prayer from a mosque in the distance. I've been enjoying the field recording and will likely continue. I feel like it is a substitute right now for vocals which I have not gotten the hang of yet.

I have limited time this week so I got this done on Monday and Tuesday. It is nice to know that it is possible for me to make something I like in not too much time when needed. I am continuing to remove and reduce from my tracks to see if less is more, and I am happy with the progress so far. When i started getting into making music, I would just put a generative monosynth patch on top of a breakbeat and I really liked it. I want to find that energy again. This week is just the breakbeat, bass, acid, a little fx and a field recording.

Loved it, particularly the self captured atmo. It fit so well. Also kicking myself for not doing any reversing on my break, it sounds so good here every time it happens.

Yeah... nearly always when I have a loop that feels incomplete my go reaction is "What else does this need?". The answer is almost always "Nothing, it probably needs you to remove some things". Maybe add some compositional variations, but no new stuff.

This is sweet. Feels like a foot chase through a busy city market.

Oh, and congrats on making it through 13 weeks smile

Feels like getting ready to leave your place and then entering the chaos of the streets.

Great wisdom on removing elements vs adding

The field recording elements are contrasting nicely as an intro and outro with the breakbeats. Once, I was in Brooklyn when we were invited by our record label “first love”. But it is 25 years ago. I wonder if everything has changed a lot.

such a cool idea to use the street noises going into a sweet fast pace tune. I second the comment about a street chase or maybe even like a backing track to a parkour vid haha. I dig it!

I dig the polymetric acid line.

Tenor GIFs have defeated me.

Sounds fantastic. I am envious of your crispy-clean mix, every element is clear and given space and really shines, awesome!

come on, give me a break. acid break that is.

I think your field recording at the beginning was pretty cool. It's neat being able to capture the sounds of the living world, almost like take a picture with your camera. The tune itself, once the main part rolls in, is pretty rad.

haha, this gave me a good chuckle.

inspiring use of field recordings, the breaks are also very nice, i had an idea to record sounds from my surroundings but never really got my thumb out of my ass to actually do it

Thank you! reverse breaks FTW!

Thank you, SQF. I wasn't thinking about storytelling but maybe i should more!

Thank you! Glad you came to Brooklyn. I've been here only half that time and a lot has changed so no doubt.

Thanks! Maybe you can do a little parkour and we can make a video big_smile

Thanks! I really appreciate how closely you always listen. It was an experiment that I would like to continue. Actually, I had acid lines of 3 and 4 bars, and did them at tempo, three quarters tempo, and half tempo. It was a bit of a math problem to figure it all out. I was like, this sounds good, but why does it work? A little work with the calculator and it all started to make sense. Thanks for the gif, i was able to click on it and enjoy it.

Thank you, neon! I appreciate your comment on the mix, it is something i have been working on so it is great it comes through.

Thank you, Viridian! I like the picture analogy. Something I think about is how sound around me feels normal, but in a different context, it could sound really cool. Like if you live in the city, rural sounds are a juxtaposition.

Thank you, Non Est! I also have to remind myself to do it more often. I saw a commercial on TV that had the line, "you wouldn't think that something so small could kill a person." I've been dieing to record it but haven't seen the commercial since!

Bringing the acid!  It's always a win when mixed with some breaks.  Cool prayer sample captured too.
Very tasty.

Love the vibe! This makes me want to try layering some field recordings

Love the way you used the call to prayer recording, such a cool sound. Nice contrast to you high energy music. Also you how you bring it back in the break works really well. Super cool!
