Thank you for all the comments, especially from last week. WB community is really pushing me to get better and I love it.

It's really hard for me to not say critical things about my track this week but I will refrain. I was really concentrating on mixing this week. I have definitely made some progress but more to come.

I made all the sounds this week from scratch and everything is in key so I feel good about that. Tried SurgeXT for the first time too. Other sources are Neutron, TD-3 and Alesis SR-16. Every time I try using something besides sampled breaks, I don't like it as much.

Honestly got through a lot of my learning to do list, now just need to make better tracks with the new knowledge big_smile

No cover image this week, not planning on it going on SoundCloud.

That panning on that one synth is rough and it'll need a bit more to balance it than a phone.
Really digging the drums though.

I'm really enjoying the middle acid-y bit! Super fun! Also, SurgeXT is quite enjoyable to use. I remember getting a bit lost in it a couple of times trying to do something specific and I just couldn't figure it out, but that's because I refused to read the manual, hahahaha... If you like SurgeXT, you should also check out Vital (if you haven't already). Anyways, glad to hear that WB is pushing you to learn new stuff! That's definitely something I'm trying to do, too!

Glad to hear, that you have a good learning curve. Your progress will be good for my inspiration too. Looking forward to hear more of your beats.

love the acid line and your use of dtmf tones as instrumentation here.

consider bouncing a couple bars of just your drums to a new sample and then chopping them into new rhythms like you would with a sampled break!

i'm glad you liked the drums thanks. I don't understand what you are saying about the synth.

Thanks for the comment! That's basically what i have tried a couple times, make the break on the drum machine, sample it into renoise and chop it up just like any other sampled break. I just feel like it doesn't sound as good and is harder to work with. i ran into some digital clipping issues this week and struggled with the tone a bit. Maybe i need to experiment with the drum kit on the drum machine, but honestly i'll probably just stick to the recorded breaks. I've also been debating whether to buy a pack of drum breaks from loop masters. i should probably just do that... I appreciate the tips, it's helpful to hear how you think about it too.

You create such a great, dynamic sonic space with your tracks, there's "room" for everything, all the instruments have their space and it makes the track really feel open and present. I need to work on making more space in my tracks like this.

As for breaks - breaks are as integral to the very genetics of jungle and dnb as the 909 is to techno. You can make techno without using anything from a 909, but a 909 is always going to feel "right". Same with breaks in jungle. Use 'em to death, they will never let you down.

The one that's panned too far to the left.
