Walking Down Wall Street

By naught101 on February 25, 2024 12:09 pm

Decided I should start doing good-enough vocals. Pretty rough, couple of writing and an hour or so recording.

This is me riffing of One Day As A Lion's style. Focusing on imagery (I need to do this way more).

Lyrics:

verse 1

I'm walking down wall street on the eve of the apocalypse
And wondering why we swapped oracles for profit slips %
Despite the profits in their pockets these fucking twits
Don't even have the slightest clue what's gonna hit em

Seems like for the last 40 years almost constantly
Scientists been slapping em round the head with a hockey stick
(But) Reality is something economists aren't bothered with
When a pile of beguiling gold hold such promises

verse 2

I'm walking down Wall Street at the peak of the apocalypse
Finally the clock has ticked, the stock market's dropping quick
The era of insane wealth gain is over, that was it
Time for one last deal, grab ya grandma and hock her quick

See the suits running, eyes wild, knowing something's off
Whos gonna defend you now? Even the cops are not
As flames engulf white marble columns, I play hopscotch
Skipping to rhythm of Molotovs popping off

verse 3

I'm walking down Wall Street day after the apocalypse
We told you fuckheads from the start, but would you listen? Not a bit
Exponential growth on a finite planet?
Ya tryna hold an explosion in the palm of your hand, shit

When the smoke clears you can survey the damage
You could not have fucked it up worse if you'd planned it
You world cumbles, we're not trapped in your brain death %
I see green shoots growing through the cracks in the pavement

Nice!

Really like the heavy synth patch with your flow over it.

Great job on the vocals!

Lit! Head is bobbing. That divey bass is ๐Ÿค˜

Love the lyrics and vocals. Canโ€™t give specific feedback but they just donโ€™t sound polished. Maybe mixed just a tad hot listening on the AirPods. Donโ€™t have the best rap vocal chain myself either, on my list to level up was well.

That bass is the perfect background. Great job on the lyrics/vocals!

Thanks y'all! Pretty happy with that imagery in the quoted line, even if the flow is not perfect smile

Yeah, I definitely need to work on vocal mixing. This was recorded in about an hour in my bedroom with no sound dampening and I just slapped on my standard vox-stem chain, which is probably not ideal for the track (and I'm pretty inexperienced with vox mixing). I might come back to this at the end of the year and edit and re-record, 'cause I kind of like how it turned out. The aim was definitely to just smash out an 80% good track with some complete vocals.

Thanks for the feedback smile

Super cool! I really like the lyrics. Hopefully the apocalypse comes soon haha.

Cash money track.

Ahaha, thank you. That concept has been pretty core to my entire adult life (lots of environmental activism and science), it was nice to find a metaphor for it that sounds cool.

IMO it's only really a diss to the capitalist/neoliberal mindset. No offense intended to other cultures or species.

i approve of this message. gave me some kate tempest vibes with the simple grit in instrumental and vocals. loved the imagery 'hockey stick' charts line. you'd be a fan of dothemath.UCSD.edu, are likely already a fan of donella meadows and kate raworth, and perhaps a solarpunk based off this one. me too ๐Ÿ––๐Ÿผ๐ŸŒ

Thanks, that's high praise! Kae Tempest is a beast, absolutely live their stuff, especially the stuff that's put to music.

I know a little of Kate Raworth's work, and I'm in to it. Not sure if I know Meadows, will have a search.

Thanks for the Do The Math link, I had a read of the top post, great stuff!
